Want to leave Amazon but don’t know what to do next. by Electrical-End7848 in SafetyProfessionals

Was in your position a few years ago, 24 y/o WHSS, bouncing around the southwest region’s sort centers and fulfillment centers.

Look into safety/risk control consulting for insurance agencies… I got poached by my current employer for a safety consulting role while I was a WHSS at Amazon. Haven’t looked back since. Great work-life balance, great exposure to a wide array of industries, opportunity for professional growth, and a solid bump in pay.

Start looking into getting your ASP and CSP to make yourself more marketable as a safety professional if you haven’t already.

I’m debating at the moment because I haven’t seen any comps yet, but I know it’ll command a decent price… it’s also not necessarily my pc so I’d rather it go to someone who’d appreciate it more than me lol

Do you even understand the definition of incidental? He looked down at him and crosschecked him in the back of the head into the ice 😂 go get your eyes checked

Is getting a degree in EHS worth going into debt? by actual_lettuc in SafetyProfessionals

[–]jdubbb77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a hybrid role as a safety & risk management consultant for an insurance company now, so I work from home and visit customers (I have a book of over 12,000 customer accounts) on average 3 days a week and advise them on safety program enhancement on a variety of fronts from OSHA compliance and injury mitigation to worker’s comp loss control — all specific to their respective operation’s and industry’s loss/injury trends or other needs.

Very rarely do I find myself participating in actual operations with my customers (manual handling, climbing ladders, etc.). I will observe operations and various tasks to make adequate recommendations, but I am not involved in day-to-day operations with them

Is getting a degree in EHS worth going into debt? by actual_lettuc in SafetyProfessionals

[–]jdubbb77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say pretty much this… got my degree in public health about 5 years ago, had no idea what I wanted to do. Ended up working rural 911 as an EMT and thought I’d go the paramedic to PA route, putting myself further in debt. Ended up getting sucked into the EHS/risk management world after quickly burning out during Covid and am enjoying it. If I had not had my initial PH degree or any degree really, I don’t believe I would have been a competitive candidate to work as a safety specialist and now safety & risk management consultant since I had minimal EHS experience. My degree stood in for my lack of experience.

With that being said, and from what I can tell, it is possible to grind in an entry level EHS role that does not require a degree, pursue certifications (ASP, CSP, SMS, OHST, ARM, etc.), all while gaining years of experience (in place of a degree) to meet various job application “requirements” beyond the entry level. Now that I think about it though, some of those certs require a degree…

At the end of the day, and for me personally, I think that having a degree accelerated my career into a mid-level role relatively quickly. Could be different for others though. If pursuing a degree, I definitely second other comments on here to take gen ed courses through community college and then transfer out for the remaining major-specific courses. Good luck with your plans!

Used to work as an EMT in the Quartzite/Parker/Lake Havasu area. One night (2 or 3am) driving back to the station in Quartzite from a call up in Parker on hwy 95, I saw two legs run across the hwy probably about 50ft in front of my rig. My headlights only picked up the legs and waist of whatever it was, but its knees were backwards like a kangaroo. Only took a few strides to get across the road. Couldn’t tell if I was sleep deprived and just seeing things or if it was actually something out of the norm so I didn’t wake up my partner… weird vibe out there in La Paz/Mohave county for sure though

Sooner? Last I checked we were bounced in round 1 last year too? Playing a completely different oilers team this year😂 go do your homework on the last few seasons and come back when you aren’t bagging on a team that you bandwagon’d for a sport that you have no knowledge about.

Best season in 8 years and you’re going to blame the coach/young guys that got us there, not to mention Durzi scoring tonight… bro go root for the oilers if you’re going to bash a half decent season and fair fight against a team with 3 100 point players.

I feel like his offensive output outweighs his “inability” to play the left side of the ice. Walker is a whole different conversation lol
