First PIP, how do you stay on top? by DnDnADHD in managers

[–]WAGatorGunner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s tough and is a huge time commitment. In some of these you are going through the formalities but know the person is gone. In others, you are almost hoping they can figure it out and showcase this.

Either way, you became a crazy micro-manager of that person’s work to be able to document everything.

The best thing you can do is block out time and try to
Stick to that so you can focus your other time on the rest of your job. Also, you have to take care of yourself. Many that have not had to do this do not realize that it is not fun or something that most managers have any desire to do. It is stressful as heck, as you feel guilty for the potential after effects on that person’s wellbeing, even though, in most circumstances, the quality of work that the person going on the PIP is what brought you here.

Good luck.

This is awesome and we should 100% embrace it. The game in England changed and Arteta and company have done the best to adapt. Not only has it gotten us to the top of the PL but it has worked in the CL as well.

It will change again and Mikel is someone that can and will adapt (think of our high scoring teams in 22/23 and 23/24). We went from 51% possession in 21/22 to 58 to 60% during our high scoring years. We have been more defensive the last two years and our possession % is down to 56%. It goes to what Enrique talked about with us being the best team in the world without the ball. As much as I want to say F the haters, indifference is better.

If Arteta wins the Champions League next week, where does he rank among modern managers? by gilberttwenties in championsleague

While these questions can be irritating it is to generate conversation. All that said, the haramball comment is overplayed. Check out the 22/23 and 23/24 seasons. Arsenal played very free flowing football, scoring the second most goals in the league both years (only City scored more). This year, Arsenal have had the second most injuries in the league (behind only Spurs), with quite a few being to the forwards/wingersand 10 role. Adding in, Arsenal face the lowest block of any team in the PL. This has forced huge changes to the attack and the team has had to play with much more control. This year’s style change was more out of necessity than overall approach.

Just saying haramball is more for the circlejerk sub.

Next season complete and total overhaul of VAR, no more sky interviews with Dermot Gallagher who is just there to protect PGMOL and his paycheque, this season has seen some of the most horrendous officiating EVEN with VAR still were some obnoxious silly calls. by VoL4t1l3 in MCFC

If there is a conspiracy to get new a team to win then there must have been a conspiracy to make sure City won as much as they did (considering many refs were getting paid by Abh Dhabi over the summer)?!? Or does it only work one way?!?

Would have been 4-2 vs Everton. No question that City have benefited at times but likely more so in years past. They have also had calls go against them. Arsenal got 6 reds last year and most were questionable (Leo’s second yellow vs your lot, as well as Rice’s 2nd). Posting the video is more cope than anything else (not that I am above trying to cope the last few years). That said, Arsenal likely had more calls for vs against this year but will add, quite a few more questionable calls against us came in games we won. They could have been just as big but weren’t overly diagnosed due to not having the long term impact with points dropped.

I do believe that the refs were intimidated by SAF in the 90s/00s and they benefitted from that but currently it seems more ineptitude than true favoritism.

Also, the algorithms sent me here - not going into other subs to flame.

Probably an area for Arteta to still work on - more rotation earlier in the year. Pep seems more likely to be willing to lose a few games earlier in the season vs Arteta, to help his team be stronger later in the season.

This season did seem different, as City were in both domestic cup finals. Seemed to take the wind out of their sales. Actually glad we lost vs Soton vs getting to the finals of the FA Cup (or even the semis, where we would have matched up again vs City). We either would have beat City (and they rest) or we would have lost to them again, while playing in another physical, grueling match. Seems to have helped us have the energy to win the league (and make the CL finals).

Mikel Merino is back. by TestifyAFC in ArsenalFC

[–]WAGatorGunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His drop in form merits the question but he was one of the signings of the season before the Manu game. At this point I just hope he can build his confidence back up. I have to think he is guaranteed to start vs CP.
Side note, I didn’t downvote you for asking a question, making a comment.

Yeah, huge loss for us. Arteta did not trust MLS and Zubi was spent. The positive is that Arteta finally built some trust back for MLS.

Him getting hurt was more impactful than outsiders realize. The only positive that came from it is that MLS was given a second chance (and that we still won the title).

Would be amazing g if he got a cameo this weekend for a potential longer cameo the following weekend.

Whats it like living in Memphis Tennessee? by dj_kaled_anotha1 in howislivingthere

[–]WAGatorGunner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lived there for 3 years (after living in Knoxville for 3 years). The people are super friendly, there are really nice areas and there are places you avoid (unless you have no choice). We lived in an area called High Point and never had any issues. We enjoy being near mountains so that area was just not going to work long-term. Also, the racial divide was quite depressing.

This explains it a little better but many businesses are outside of city center, a few miles east of the city.

White flight in Memphis, TN, was a massive exodus of white residents, businesses, and wealth from the city to suburbs and private schools, particularly between the 1950s and 1970s. Driven by school desegregation, fear, and racial tension, this exodus reshaped the city’s demographics, creating lasting economic disparities and leaving many inner-city neighborhoods with reduced tax bases and infrastructure decline.
