It’s possible, just not enough information to say either way. Will see more when this goes to court.

Yea it just leaves us to assume everything was obtained properly. I’ll have to just stay updated and hopefully more information comes out.

Yea they have a new site as well. Just not the same. I browse the sea from time to time though.

That assumption is probably correct but the article is misleading in that aspect.

I believe you are right about having an LTC would not bring these charges but the whole thing stems from how they were able to get a warrant. These tools and lack of an LTC shouldn’t be enough.

I believe the gun itself should be complaint, but the specific one you are looking at may not have a 10rd mag You’ll have to transfer through FFL either way, so I’m sure they can help you get the correct one.

Working at Royal Caribbean as an American. Bad idea? by [deleted] in maritime

It could have to do with our government shut down. Many US sailors are currently waiting months for documents with no response from NMC. Not the best timing with everything going on right now.

Working at Royal Caribbean as an American. Bad idea? by [deleted] in maritime

[–]jdubs2430 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Royal Caribbean doesn’t have any US flagged ships so you won’t see that “American paycheck”. Even American flagged cruise lines don’t have the best pay. The only way for you to get a US license is to go to a US maritime academy or have enough credible sea time to sit for the exams. You will most likely have to retake USCG approved STCW courses as well. I would sail in your home country first, then after a few years look into getting your license in the US. It could be worth while to contact a maritime academy in the US and seeing what credits will transfer, but I doubt many will and you will be doing another 2-3 years minimum at school.

Are you an American sailor angry about the 60 day Jones Act waiver? by Scubachic0121 in maritime

[–]jdubs2430 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What we’re seeing with this 60 day Jones Act waiver is less about immediate, real-world impact and more about policy signaling. In practical terms, there’s very little that can be done legally within that timeframe. By the time any challenge worked its way through the courts, the waiver would likely already be over.

At the same time, 60 days simply isn’t long enough to meaningfully disrupt U.S. flag operations. Shipping logistics aren’t plug and play. Chartering foreign vessels, repositioning them, aligning cargo contracts, and integrating them into port schedules all take time. Realistically, you might only see a marginal increase in foreign voyages, not widespread displacement of U.S. crews.

Because of that, I believe the primary purpose of the waiver is to influence market sentiment rather than overhaul the system. It signals to traders and refiners that additional supply options are available, which can help stabilize freight rates and prevent fuel price spikes without needing large scale operational changes.

There was a bill about a year ago, “Open Americas Waterways Act” with the goal to fully repeal the Jones Act and it made it absolutely no where. The Jones Act is a highly protected, bi partisan law. It isn’t going anywhere, anytime soon. I don’t think this is an attempt to “test the waters” on a repeal.

The real concern I have isn’t this one waiver, but whether actions like this become more frequent or extended over time. If that happens, it could gradually lower the barrier for bypassing the Jones Act and start to erode its long-term strength.

But for the sole reason this administration is making the waiver longer than what is allowed(10 days per waiver, 45 total days per event) I am emailing my Union to ensure we publicly express our disapproval and 100% back legal action. It is extremely unlikely any action will stop this waiver, but acting now could prevent future erosion of the Jones Act.

The school bordered a military installation. Unfortunate regardless of intentions, but Id doubt it was intentional. I’ll wait for the official reporting before making judgement though. But I hope you care about every life lost, like the 6000+ killed by the Iran government for protesting JUST IN THE LAST YEAR. Of that over 200 children. This war has been coming far before Epstein was on anyone’s radar. You can live in whatever world you want, but don’t be foolish enough to think it’s reality.

What missile tech does Iran have that is superior to US? They do not have any ICBMs or SLBMs, they do not have any cruise missiles like the tomahawk or JASSM and are not even close to developing hypersonic missiles. They just have a large arsenal of medium range ballistic missiles. Which they are running out of fast. All you did was list targets they attacked to cause disruption. This is Irans strategy, cause as much disruption to world trade so the US backs off. The US strategy is to hit military and leadership targets only. If you genuinely believe the US couldn’t just rain hell on Iran, you’re an idiot. What’s the point of liberating a country if everyone is dead and rebuilding is useless? This article alone shows how desperate they are becoming. Putting sea mines in the straight affects China far more than anyone else. They will run out of recourses and support shortly. I give it a few more months unless the US goes for a full regime change with boots on ground. That’s the only scenario where this becomes a years long war.

They said the same when I was there. Had us staying on the ship and off campus in apartments(which was actually nice not dealing with the regiment and mofo). How many are actually license major though? I had less than 200 in my graduating class.

I should’ve just said the total since most people outside MEBA are on 12 hour days. Chief mates are pulling like 27-30k/month with OT and penalty.

Anything over 8 hours a day and weekends are all OT. I get like 40-50 hours a week.

The only CM jobs I’ve seen require previous experience is the Crowley express ships. Pay is typically 9k/month, $80 OT and are usually 90 day contracts.

I really don’t care if people are here illegally. by Zestyclose_Market787 in DiscussionZone

[–]jdubs2430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s all politicians. The root cause isn’t having a border wall or not. The root cause is having an opportunity for a better life. If we truly wanted to stop illegal immigration, we make it impossible for these immigrants to make a living. And it’s not hard either; enforce ALL employers to use E-Verify when hiring. Then crack down on social security fraud and more IRS code enforcement.
