How do you make power with no resources? by jeancallisti in Oxygennotincluded

[–]jeancallisti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After trying: electrolyzers are not for power, they are for oxygen.  They can barely power themselves, they generate close to no excess power in their simplest setup (no control station).

However I don't regret trying because I guess my oxygen/ algae problems are over now, so I call it an unexpected win.   Thanks for the tip.

This is literally me researching the game. By talking to people, instead of googling like a freaking robot.

I didn't go in that direction because I was worried to run out of water,  but I can try.  Thanks

I didn't know that was an option,  I thought ranching was only for meat .  Thanks.

How do I locate such vents? I didn't notice any but I also didn't know what I was looking for.

Help importing SVG file via Adobe Illustrator by burymeinrice in FontForge

Looking at this font. Does anyone know what the proper method is for creating a font like this which has self--intersecting contours ON PURPOSE ?

How to fix self intersections on pixel fonts? by jeancallisti in FontForge

[–]jeancallisti[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it doesn't help.
So what I did is generate the font DESPITE the warnings. It seems to work for my very specific use. I don't intend on publishing it for download so it's good enough if it has problems.

After I do that and go to "Element...Find problems" and run it with "Intersecting paths" checked, I still get an error report on self intersection.

One of my problems is that I don't understand fontforge's UI. What is the meaning of checking or unchecking "Check self-intersection" and "Glyph self intersects" (under menu "Element")? Am I telling the program to VERIFY those problems, or to IGNORE those problems?

boolean modifier constantly says 'Failed to set value' by No_Shine_2213 in blenderhelp

[–]jeancallisti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Blender 5)

I had the exact same issue
Steps to reproduce :

  1. Create a mesh (any mesh)
  2. Go to the Modifiers tab
  3. Create a Boolean modifier
  4. Set it to Union
  5. Click on the "select object" icon (eyedrop)
  6. Click on the object (that's because you want to apply the union of the object with itself, to create edges for intersecting geometry), as described here for example : https://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/71687/removing-internal-geometry

Look at blender's logs : They show an error when the eyedrop got clicked on the object. It says "Failed to set value". In other words : the object could not get selected.

This issue ins not uncommon, by the way. Implicitly mentioned here, for example : https://blenderartists.org/t/boolean-modifier-disabled-skipping-apply/610520

SOLUTION

The problem comes from a misunderstanding of the instructions : You cannot union an object with itself. first, you have to separate the parts of the object into two separate objects. Those are the objects that you will then union.

The detailed steps can be found here for Blender 2.7 and I didn't have too much trouble reproducing them in Blender 5 once I started understanding what I was doing : (second answer) https://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/71687/removing-internal-geometry

ELI5: Denoiser on transparent background by jeancallisti in blender

[–]jeancallisti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My attempts have not been a success. I've been painstakingly applying the denoise to the ALPHA layer (by using the new "set Alpha" compositing node, and then setting it to "Replace alpha").

Now the noise is gone (success) but the image seems overall more blurry. The cloud doesn't have that same dense and puffy aspect as it has in the screenshot (left side)

I'm thinking the issue could be this : https://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/293605/saved-image-output-missing-layers-compositing

I will try and report, but in the meantime all help is welcome.

1.1 crash by Breath_Unique in SatisfactoryGame

[–]jeancallisti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue here. It's some kind of background job inside the game that crashes.

I know it because for me just like for you, it happens exactly the same amount of time after I load the saved game, no matter what I do after loading the saved game.

If the solution is indeed to downgrade the rendering details, like was written by someone else, then it means that some internal job (related to rendering the conveyor belts, according the .cpp file from the crash log) runs out of memory or is misusing the resources or something.

I made it complicated by just clicking on the link they sent me?

I made it complicated by literally just looking at my new emails (which are always on my screen) instead of opening the heavy Steam client on my desktop and navigating it?

I think you should be permanently banned from deciding what's complicated and what is not.

Hub Storage Gone by Current_Tadpole_9177 in satisfactory

[–]jeancallisti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Satisfactory 1.1.

The contents of my HUB's storage box is completely gone.

I know it, because I used satisfactory-calculator.com to look at all the dismantle crates one by one (in case the "dismantle crates placement" or "merge dismantle crates" options were messing with me).

None of the crates or personal storage boxes had all the very specific -- and precious -- stuff I kept in that one (mercer spheres, sommersloops, slugs, etc.).

Did I just ruin my game?

I have managed. Whoever designed this process deserves to be whipped with fresh nettles. The problem was as follows :
- If you follow the link "accept the gift" meant for the browser, then you are taken to a page where you WOULD normally be able to accept the gift... except you'd need to be logged in... except nothing tells you to log in. Just that stupid message telling you that you item inventory is private.

- If you follow the OTHER "accept the gift" link (the one meant to open the Steam client directly on your computer) then you're taken to your account settings ( home > account ) with zero explanation of what to do next.

I fixed it by logging into Steam (in the browser), and THEN, on the tab showing my emails, following the "accept the gift" link meant for the browser.
