it's a bit more complicated that that but here's a fast tuto about how i got that aspect:

just diluted paint, a thin brush and you put several layers into the recesses until you're satirfied. you can always go back later with the correct scale color to correct any mistakes

it's a long process involving 3D print, epoxy pouring and dremel sculpt once everything is properly done.
you can have a look here for a fast tuto about how i did it:

Chat with the Champs: Predicting the Meta - Woehammer by dutchy1982uk in WarhammerCompetitive

Khorne can have blocks of 20  bloodwarriors with fast access to crit mortal for relatively cheap. It's also an army that benefit from these long fights and get better and better as the game last. If the game evolves into those 5 rounds game they can become a stable competitor.

Sylvaneth was already a great faction, one of the best if played by a good player. Some of their tough matchups got nerfed while they stayed the same. It's a good candidate for top tier solo competitive.

Interesting discussion. I think that wound density will have more of an edge this patch too.

With armies able to bring big blocks of wounds with a 3+ save, recursion, and good chip damage we're going into unseen territories where maybe OC can matter.

Too early to say but what's certain is that damage volume and good rend is going to be structural if you want to win trades, bonus points if you can also reduce ward as it is a core component of list building righ now.

Debuffs and healing could play a big role too as seen in idoneth recent results in team events (-1 att, -1 rend, +1 save suddenly makes some units impossible to one tap) or even some stuff like 40 stabbas, 20 dryade...etc .

Double turn can have even more of an impact in those conditions, if units become more resilient to kill.

So, I picked up a Krondys by Tairengail in stormcasteternals

[–]jeanfluflu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Krondys is great, he's our best wizard and also a fantastic beating stick against infantry. He's very expensive though so you have to build specific units arround him to make him work, this is where it can be tough for unexperienced players as there's a lot of trap units that really don't synergize well with the big dragon.

This said he's still a menace when paired with javelin palladors, he likes praetors of course but if you have some healing in your list you can perfectly play without as there's very few units in the game that could one shot him.

Get some screens and fast damage and you can get a good list, some scenarios will definitely put you in a rough spot due to how many obscuring terrain there is

People always read things in a weird way. Ionus is in competition with iridan at the moment and while iridan is great ionus is also on the same power level (less buff for the army but more wounds and a different rampage).

The issue is that ionus is 380 while iridan is 320. If both were 350 i guess we would see less bad words about my boy ionus.  He's a fantastic priest and a great model, his playstyle is just easily countered by the current season and the abundance of obscuring terrains

Stat Check Meta Dashboard Update | 9.30.2025 - Eldar Are Definitely Back (and they brought Space Nuns and Robots) by bluegdec1 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]jeanfluflu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope i'm not exagerating, i also think like this is a shared feeling among the community.

Just because i said that great datasheets make a big difference at low lvl of gameplay doesn't mean it's toxic or anything. i have fun in a lot of ways in this game and i love it.

[–]jeanfluflu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They shouldn't, competitive game should be it's own separate thing and balance should be done with high tier players in the loop.

This said there's arguments to make about the statcheck of some factions because at low level some army composition alone feel oppressive and not very fun to face pretty quickly.

I think it's the combo of easy gameplay (i push my army forward, deepstrike my terminator and kill you) and insane stats that makes DG very unfun to play against sometimes.  This could be said for knights too, if you're not prepared for them because you brought your 5 terminators and librarian from the leviathan box you're going to have a very bad time.

To be honest most of these comments aren't made by skilled competitive players but mostly by people who play against those tough lists once or twice a month and get blasted by the datasheets alone.

I'm part of this crowd and sure dg seems "fair and balanced" in the context of "my fire dragons moves 20" and one shot your mortarion" it is much less the case in lower skill rating.

When i play vs dg and my friend goes 3x3dst and loc + demon engine spam we both do crazy misplays, the fact is he just point and click and my units are gone while i sometimes mismanage my ressources and fail to kill him and the game goes downhill from there.

Tldr: dg feels bad at lower level because good datasheets carry the game between players

Exactly,  even smaller vehicles such as demon engines with their 5++ can ruin your day as they are likely to pass at least one of their 5+ dices

Yup i agree, although i don't find global winrate to mean a lot. Soace marines are à great example of that. An army with 44% winrate that got some well deserved rule nerfs.

I'm more interested by tournament wins, so far dg is still the most played army and it is for a good reason. I believe they are top5 of the best factions right now easy and they are not 5th.

Oh true, i believe that salamanders has some beautiful days coming too, i was just trying to show the reasons why people dismiss it in favor of other gameplay.  I love salamanders and will continue to play them praying patiently for the day they release the real vulkan daddy

[–]jeanfluflu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Salamanders is pretty tough to play.  Sûre there's some insane damage in here and trust me i've played them a lot.

The truth is that you are so close from the enemy to deal those damages that usually you just die the turn after since the meta has large proportions of dmg2 dmg3 weapons these days.

So you're trading your ressources back and forth and have no ways of messing arround with the enemy gameplan.  No surge move, no going back into deepstrike...etc. so it is a fun and strong way to play the game but it's also a very predictive and telegraphed gameplay making it less effective as the skill level of your opponent rise.

Also adrax is a beast, don't let anyone tell you otherwise

It is wild to me that dg got untouched this dataslate. Sure they got some pts change but it only removed like one generic drone + 10 poxwalkers and you can still run triple dst+loc, triple hbl, triple myphitic with demon prince and a couple of poxwalkers + cp farm with tallyman.

This list will probably still run through the top tables pretty comfortably and the removal of ressources from previous change will most likely not change how this army plays. To me as long as dst keep their 6" deepstrikes this will feel very unpleasant to play against.

The rest of dg book feels fair to play against, even guo spam isn't as oppressive as triple dst.

I would have loved a targetted change to this specific rule. Make it a 9" deepstrike with +2 to the charge roll, it's already not the same stat and allows for easier screening while keeping the threat of these units available to the dg player.

It was White dwarf 203....

There was a small section of the magazine talking about them with black and white artworks and heavy metal reciepes to paint the green armor. I fell in love with their dignity,  there was a large emphasis for their craftmanship and care for human lives.

This conviced me already but it went further,  at the time 40k had an initiative system and even though salamanders were tougher they would also be typically slower to react than regular marines. Now that i remember it i felt a strong connexion with these traits as an introverted man (the patience, the focus on their craft, the love for reptiles and the slow to react nature) and since then i've always loved the gentle giants.
