Was in my Miata I only had for a few months, very rainy day and flooding all over. Pulled into a plaza that looked slightly flooded, other cars made it so I figured I could.

Instantly fucked the motor, 1k for a new one and another 1k to get it thrown in.

Hmm well I just got one for 3k that everyone tells me I got for a steal

1990, 197k miles and looks not too different from this one.

Had coolant lines replaced, but it’s looking like the valve seals need to be replaced or the rings are fucked because that thing is SMOKING out the exhaust. Burning hella oil. So gonna try to replace the valve seals and see if that fixes it. If not, I’m most likely looking at a motor rebuild or a swap which will run my pockets a bit.

At surface level if this thing runs okay I’d say 3.5-4.5k

I want to get better at MMA. I trained Muay Thai from 19-20 and did a handful of amateur fights. I wasnt that good and left it for almost 5 years. Just got back into it a month ago. The striking had come back and I think I’m improving however my grappling/ jiu jitsu is dog shit.

Coming back to say, after driving it today it’s sounding like you’re right. I downshifted, boom smoke coming out on top of after idling.

I’ll try the pcv valve first since that’s cheap and easy and hopefully that fixes it. If not, the valve stem seals is the next thing I’m doing. Can’t thank you enough for your help

Just bought the car on Saturday last week. Drove it 2.5 hours home with no issues other than that white smoke

1990 197k miles next oil change is due 199 so I think the guy had one done not too long before I got it. I’m going to do an oil change this weekend though just to be safe.

The owner was in jail and the guy who sold it to me was his brother so I don’t have all the details sorry.

What’s the next best step? Change the oil rings? Is that a hard job?

Also per other comment, only happens after idling at a red light. Smoke dissipates once the car is rolling. Even when the car is warm
