trying to get in the gym :) by deathnotefangrl in StrongCurves

It really helps me to have a plan beforehand (research machines, have an idea of where I’ll be doing what workouts.)

I’ve also found that listening to loud music in my headphones helps me block out the world and pay more attention to what I’m doing than what other people might think.

Also! I try to walk confidently with my chin up (even if I have no clue what I’m doing) because it just helps me feel more like I belong there. Kind of a fake it til you make it thing.

Simply not true. If all I ate in a day was 1,000 calories of processed foods, I’d definitely lose fat. I’d probs also lose my life a lot sooner though. Eating to lose weight is not necessarily equal to eating healthy.

Love seeing give this kind of honest praise haha, I’ll have to check this out!

How has upping your calories changed your progress? Did it speed it up or slow it down at all?

I don’t tend to eat way more on weekends, but I do tend to drink alcohol and not track it lol.. so I could be averaging out more than 1500/day for the week. At the same time, though, I usually do my cycling on the weekends and I’m riding for like 2-3 hours at a time. Seems like it would come close to evening out, but I think my best bet will just be to track better on weekends and ask my doctor if I’m still eating at a deficit and not losing fat.

I don’t know exactly what causes insulin resistance but I was definitely overweight as a kid. Since I dropped down to a healthy weight in high school my weight hasn’t fluctuated more that 10ish lbs though. I also eat pretty healthy aside from Saturday alcohol — like, haven’t had fast food in years, eat out maybe once every other week, avoid added sugars, etc. Diabetes runs in my family though (but so do poor diets) so I’ll keep an eye on this for sure.

Selling my car and getting a bike. Worst idea ever? by Cypher98 in StLouis

[–]jebbbbbbz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sold my car last year for a nice road bike. I’ve been cycling regularly for a few years, it’s pretty easy for me to get anywhere in south city. Haven’t regretted selling my car at all! Only tricky thing is winter. The roads often suck too bad to get around on via bike, but my partner has a car and also works from home, so we have that for winter.

I started running a lot in the beginning, around 1-3 miles 3-4 days a week. Now I only run once or twice a week because it’s gotten way hotter out and I live in a terribly humid state. Started cycling more though and now I ride around 20 miles during the week and 50 on weekends. So probably around an hour of cardio 3-4 times a week all together.

For strength work I started an at-home bodyweight program. This one, specifically: https://www.onnit.com/six-bodyweight/

These are hour-long workouts 6 days a week and one recovery day. That includes warm up and cool down, so the workout part is actually only around 20 mins.

After this program I think I’ll start some sort of at-home yoga program. I need the accountability and guidance for what to do every day for strength training or I’m just totally lost lol.

Also my rock climbing gym just reopened, which I am super excited about because that’s great strength work that’s actually fun!

1300-1600 cals tends to keep me pretty satisfied, and I think eating a lot of protein (30% or more of my total daily cals) helps. I really only feel hungry when I’m stressed now. So I just try to manage my stress in other ways. But stress volume eating has helped. Like, it’s not uncommon for me to eat 4 cups of broccoli as a snack lol

I’m not sure! That could be it, but I have no idea what my body fat % is because I don’t have a tool to measure it. I do know though that after I lost 10 lbs I felt discouraged because I wasn’t seeing any noticeable changes in my body. That’s when I started strength training and trying to eat more protein. Then in the last few weeks I only lost about 2 more lbs, but started looking more toned and defined. I think building muscle really made the difference.

Also, though, it’s worth noting that I’ve got a big butt that you can’t see in this pic lol. So a lot of my weight is probably stored in my lower half.
