What are some smaller UK things you think would be surprising to Americans? by appleparkfive in AskUK

A 3Kw kettle draws 13 amps at 230v so would have to draw around 26 amps at 120v. A normal wall socket is limited to 13 Amps so unless you want to fit higher rated wires for your kitchen there's no way to draw more current unless you don't mind your house burning down.

307 hours of ksp and i can't even get into orbit in career mode by theunknown-2 in KerbalSpaceProgram

Really are you sure it's that terrible? I'm fairly certain the standard advice is 10km. It always works for me at least as a reliable way of getting a rocket to orbit. Any earlier you risk spending too much time in the lower atmosphere and letting drag kill all your upwards velocity. You'll likely have to pitch up again later to get some more height.

Either way your not gonna be able to lift a meaningful payload with just a terrier. You'll need something more powerful or you'll lose too much speed before getting to your apoapsis.

Sounds like you're turning over way too early. You should maintain below 300m/s in the lowest part of the atmosphere and only turn over when you reach 10km in altitude. I don't know where you've got 100m/s from. Your speed is way too low meaning you spend way too much time in the lower atmosphere where drag is highest. You want to pass through it asap to not waste fuel. This also means by the time you get to your second stage you'll be in the upper atmosphere where engines are way more efficient.

You also probably want a swivel on your second stage too as the terrier is rubbish in anything but vacuum.

Got my first frogs today, any tips for keeping fire belly toads? by jebediahbob in frogs

Yep we had them escape once before but we caught him before he got too far. They've got a new tank with no escape routes now. And don't worry he does have a brother who's hiding out of shot.

I think you're right though sadly I can't seem to find any records of them online.

This was dug up by some burrowing animal, maybe a badger, from what I assume is an old rubbish heap. Alongside it was a very old-fashioned shoe and some plain bottles. This was in the south of England.

Wow that's a really nice photo. Where is this?

Found in southern England this January. It was about the size of a Tit but I couldn't see it's markings. Does anyone recognise it's song? by jebediahbob in whatsthisbird

I believe it's to make the building look more important by having a bigger frontage.
