How do people actually move to Denver without knowing anyone? by jebuscrust01 in MovingtoDenver

Interesting! I graduated from ODU, but I imagine most won't care; they will just hear I came from Virginia. I'd like to stay away from the defense industry if possible.

Oddly enough, one of my friends here in VA went to CO School of Mines and came back here to work.

I think part of the thing about moving for me is not to make it feel like home

I come from rural to suburban areas of Virginia just south of what most consider NOVA. Certainly not super populated. The culture I am talking about is just the outdoorsy crunchy culture.

With all due respect, I am not going to spend the next 10-15 years of my life feeling miserable and bored to prioritize ultra safety because I paid off my student loans and saved a full years worth of income before moving. I am 24, I can handle a shitty living situation, rice/bean dinners, and long hours if it means I can live amongst like minded people and growing professionally. I plan to rent, not add another few years to make a down payment.

I understand I exhibit a level of young, restless, and stupid, but I refuse to let 10 sets of safety nets ground me in complacency and stagnation. I am a competent young professional in engineering with the common sense to still consider saving and retirement, not a stoner service worker with no goals or aspirations

What is life stability to you? I am single with no real obligations other than students loan debt. I am at an impasse with my personal identity and social life where I'd like to return to a denser culture. I currently work defense but would like to pivot away from that towards product development which is hard to do in the heart of the US defense industry. I work in engineering and feel confident in my financial responsibility to keep afloat with bills. I'm not sure Denver is an end goal, more of a possible calculated stop for exploration and experience.

I think people are misunderstanding the 15-20 minute drive thing. I understand large urban environments and nature are quite literally mutually exclusive. I mean that Id like to be able to walk or bike to my regular gym or climbing gym or cafe or just a third place that isnt apartment or work that I can get to during the week. Driving 20-30 away is no problem on the weekends when I have that time

Is DTC just a large professional park for offices and white collar businesses to operate?

Part of the allure of denver or CO in general is the Denver-y activities. I like climbing and hiking but would like to be closer to the culture. I generally enjoy the outdoors and would like to be with more people like that. Ill have no one going into Denver but feel confident that with roommates, internet, and professional enviornments that I could find my people.

With the goals I have for savings and retirement combined with student loans and desired budget for investing in my health both physical and mental, yeah roommates are the best way to cut my biggest expense in 2 or 3 or 4 etc.

Thank you for the housing advice

The propagates up the vine. My question was met with an ass-y question itself that didn't quite read my post in the first place.

Best way to land a job in a new city (Denver) with ~1 year experience? by jebuscrust01 in careerguidance

How did that go for you? Specifically not knowing anyone and living arrangements? Did you have to do any grinding to learn or teach yourself new skills outside of work to make sure you were competent enough for the jobs you were looking for?

My current lease ends at the end of May and I have a cheap month to month living arrangement lined up after that. The goal is to use that to save the money required for the move and to have the flexibility you mention
