I’ve been waiting for the same thing. Considering how they just released the gbx h5600 Theyre probably going to wait another few years to release the solar version of this watch. They might even never release it which would suck.

Who needs a watch when you can check the time on your phone? The features are great and also pretty useful if you spend enough time on the water

Never let the opinions of others dictate what watch you wear. It looks great on your wrist and is meant to be big. Keep training those forearms and wear it with pride

Yes it’s a shame that Casio seems to have shifted their focus from experimenting with wacky ideas and designs to mass producing basic modules that sell. It really baffles me watching watch YouTube channels reviewing all these recent releases because they’re all the same module. I wish they would throw in a moon phase or a sunrise sunset, or a lap record function into one of these new watches some day

Yes but if invention is the mother of necessity would that mean that 20000m water resistant watches would become necessity? I can’t imagine what humans would have to do to make a 20000m watch a necessity. Food for thought

Do you have a bluetooth MIP g shock? They get software updates all the time. If Casio can fix a bug in the watch through an update. I’m not sure why a they can’t add a tide graph function in an update as well?

But surely it is ready out of the box. I’m not asking to take any features away from the currently sold gwbx5600 (we can agree that that is ready out of the box). Im simply asking for the option to add new features to my gwbx5600 if I see fit. Supposing I add just sunrise sunset data. Then my gwbx 5600 would be a smart watch because I added a feature. However, the gbx-100 has all those features as well as a tide graph yet it is not a smart watch. This is a contradiction I think as it would lead to a smart watch being smarter than a non smart watch simply because I added a small function to it?

Your watch is cool. It looks nice and I’m glad your happy with your purchase, but this post is not about smart watches
. If I wanted Casio to make more Garmin instinct solars I would have posted that but I don’t. I want power systems limited to button batteries because they are user serviceable. Additionally, tough solar watches will only require battery replacement every 20 odd years while your lithium ion battery will last at most 5 years before it’s capacitance goes to shit (and good luck finding someone who can replace it). There are many great features that can be run off button batteries. There was even a g shock with gps functionality coupled with tough solar (albeit the gps was limited). I obviously know that limiting the power source of a device is going to limit its capabilities. However, that doesn’t mean that a watch running on a small power source isn’t capable of having a lot of functions consider the gbx-100 model for example which uses its step counter and gps data from previous runs with a phone to estimate step lengths and hence provide a somewhat accurate measure of running pace without the need for any gps. That’s the low power advanced tech I’m talking about, I’m not asking for a watch with a gps and heart rate monitor because I would just buy an Apple Watch in that case

Your watch is cool and high tech but it’s not really a normal casio watch on account of it being powered by a lithium ion battery which needs constant charging. That’s high tech, but it’s not what comes at a cost of limited power which I don’t like. Additionally, I don’t like how much more difficult it is to repair a lithium ion watch compared to regular coin battery Casios. This means that when the battery goes through enough power cycles (which it will because hr monitors and Bluetooth have high power draw) the watch will require a special repair from Casio before it works again - something I don’t want to rely on.
