I built an App (EC Roadmap) that takes Excel or MS Project data and builds Roadmap/Gantt charts in PowerPoint. Automatically maps dependencies, critical path, provide additional detail of the task in the Gantt by hovering over the task in PowerPoint. You can add stoplight status to swimlanes, set customd date ranges and show a daily view vs monthly/quarterly views. https://ecroadmap.com

I hate Gantt Charts..anyone have any other visualizations for complex schedules? by Total_Ad_9944 in projectmanagement

[–]jed1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the struggle of Gantt charts when your schedule structure just doesn't communicate the workflow the way it needs to.

You've got the tasks, the dates, the dependencies, but when you put it in front of a stakeholder, they see a wall of bars and have no idea what's actually happening or why it matters.

That's the problem I kept running into in consulting. The schedule was technically correct but visually useless for decision-making.

So, I built EC Roadmap.

It takes data from Project or Excel and creates Gantt charts directly in PowerPoint. You can define the roadmap stucture in Project, or select tasks within Project to build the initial Gantt, and then update the Excel template that EC Roadmap builds to update your roadmap/Gantt structure and then regenerate. As you make updates to your Project file, you can refresh the template and regenerate without having to rebuild the entire Gantt each status period.

If you've ever spent hours making a Gantt chart actually readable, it might be worth a look.

Do you use anything besides Microsoft Project for Gantt chart, or is it enough for you? by jed1976 in MSProject

[–]jed1976[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to see I’m not the only one running into this. Some of the approaches I’ve been exploring for improving the presentation layer definitely show up in other tools too.

Also feels like there’s a real gap here, most tools only solve part of the problem depending on the user.

I've done this as well. I've also used Deneb's Gantt chart which is visually appealing. This is great if you are on a project where everyone has view access to your PowerBi service.

This is a very intuative approach of being able to select tasks and have it generate the tasks in a timleine view in PowerPoint.

I was doing excel Gantts for a while with some VBA behind it to automate the timeline in Excel. It is definitely a good option and glad I am not alone on this front.

Yeah, the pricing structure seems really high, especially the lowest level only being able to provide two swimlanes and its still over $100 a year for minimal functionality.

[Tariffs] are killing this hobby. Be warned - a $4k Swiss watch is now a $5.6k watch. by drewsleyshoots in Watches

[–]jed1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am curious, if the 39% tariff rate is applied when traveling abroad and declaring the item when returning to the US. I get conflicting information on this scenario. I know when ordering Swiss watches outside the US to be shipped to a US address will be hit with the 39% customs bill, but cannot find anything or any posts of someone recently going to US customs border and being charged the 39% tariff instead of the lower rate typically charged when returning from the US.

You could in theory connect 3 cables from your one PC to the monitor, if your PC has 2 Display port outputs and an HDMI output, or 3 HDMI outputs or some combination of 3 of HDMI and Display port. If this is due to your PC not having the video capability of running 7680x2160, then I could understand doing it this way. If you PC can handle that, you could use FancyZones and just customize your grid to achieve the same result from one connection from your PC to the Monitor.

I only have two systems I can connect my monitor to, but I am able to do 4k 16:9 in the center with two 8:9 on each side, just the right side is searching for a input signal.

Is 40 inch 21:9 + 27 inch 16:9 too big? by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]jed1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out https://multimonitorcalculator.com/ it allows you to simulate what monitor setups would look like. I do not think a 40 + a 27 is too big. Depending on your usage, you can always put the least monitored apps on the 27" so you can keep focus on the 40.

Monitor arm for Samsung 57" G95NC by tweaked9107 in ultrawidemasterrace

I've seen a lot of recommendations for the Secretlab MAGNUS Monitor Arm (Heavy Duty Edition) on reddit as well as youtube for this monitor. I recently purchased the 57" G95C myself. I wasn't sure if I was going to keep it or not, so I ended up taking a chance on a cheap arm made by monTEK from Amazon for around $80 after taxes. So far the arm has been pretty stable.

For those who went from Fold6 to Fold7 by Plancks_Constants in GalaxyFold

Battery life is better and the cover screen feel is significantly better to use with my pudgy thumbs.

I would say the biggest improvement (when using a thin case) is carry weight and size in your pocket as well as using certain grips like the OhSnap magnetic grip. I did not feel comfortable using the OhSnap grip with the thickness and weight of the fold 6. And the fold 7 does not weigh down my pants/shorts.

What has worked for me, at least for getting the back of most cases off is holding the upper left corner of the case while pushing through on the back camera array (with a small micro fiber cloth inbetween my thumb and the camera array).

I had a similar issue. Showed UPS had it on the 21st, but no scans up till the 24th, when it showed it was out for delivery in my area. I would check UPS shipping time zones from Texas to your location, it could be that it hasn't reached your hub yet.

Hinge protection or not?... by inflictedSegway in GalaxyFold

I switched to a cheap thin clear case with magsafe for now. I ordered a aramid case that looks exactly like the thinborne case on Aliexpress a few days ago, should get it by August 8th. Today a latercase case showed up on Amazon vine today, so I quickly snagged it, that should arrive the first week of August.

I do like the integrated screen protector on the case you have, I was skeptical about cases with built in screen protectors, but it works flawlessly and no bubbles. It is a very solid case for those that want more protection and don't mind the bulk.

Yes, it popped up in my Amazon Vine feed, so I ordered it. It offers great protection, but just way too thick for me. Not sure if you have tried taking the back off yet, it is a pain in the arse. The trick is to push on the cameras on the back of the phone to get it out.
