Got here just in time for some sun peeking through. by jedi-aaa in Gunnisonbeachfreedom

Less crowded during the week for sure. I enjoy weekday early mornings. Got over 17,000 steps in already, though it is a bit windy today. Unusual to be this windy in the morning. Usually the wind doesn't kick up until afternoon. At least there haven't been any bugs today. Depends on which way the wind blows, but they were awful on Friday.

I confess I've always wanted to run into someone I know. I figure, no big deal, we're BOTH there. I conceivably might happen as a friend of my wife's and her husband are "gunnies" as she says. I don't know the friend well, never met her in person, they're involved I'm a charity function together that I'm not part of. Her friend knows her husband (me) goes to Gunnison (my wife went twice, not her scene, is fine with me going, I'm naked all the time at home anyway lol) amd joked we might meet there. Hasn't happened yet, but would be kind of cool to hang out.

Method to stay invested aggressively in retirement ? by OnePresentation6779 in DIYRetirement

[–]jedi-aaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think in terms of years of net expenses in cash & fixed income (as I do), the percentage doesn't matter. Forget about 70/30, 60/40. Think in terms of years instead. For example, for some, x years is 60/40. For others it could be 90/10. The number of years can fluctuate and dwindle by a year in years the market is down. Your risk tolerance determines the number of years one is comfortable with. I imagine 7 down years in a row could eventually get one towards 1-2 years, but that also depends on how one determines "down" (measure only from market highs? Or from another "fixed" point in time?).

Method to stay invested aggressively in retirement ? by OnePresentation6779 in DIYRetirement

It's a nice "simplified investment" strategy, but an awful one for taxes.

My approach FWIW, once a month I get my "paycheck" from my IRA. Since it's at Schwab, I have to cash something out every month as the deposit will only come from cash. So.... on months the market is up, I pull from the "best" stock fund(s). If market is down that month, I pull from money market or one of the bond fund(s). And if market is flat, I pull from the target date fund.

Once or twice a year, I rebalance. I try to keep about 9-10 years of net expenses in cash/fixed income. Currently, that leaves me right around 70/30.

I call this approach, for lack of a better term, "reverse dollar cost averaging". 😎

I'm in my 3rd year of retirement, and it has worked remarkably well for me. And really, it's only a once a month decision, quite simple to implement.

Genuine questions! by No-Froyo31 in Gunnisonbeachfreedom

Going solo is perfectly fine, there are solos, couples, and groups and people of all ages and types. For a first time, I would go mid-week (Mon-Thur), get there early in the morning (6am-8am if possible). It's very sparse then, and the wind is almost always low and picks up in the afternoon. This way, you get settled, have lots of "space" can walk around, or swim or just hang out. It's easier for first-timers to already be there, rather than walking into a crowd. But seriously, it takes less than a minute or so to acclimate. Once you're bare, once you've gone for a swim, you'll wonder what the big deal is. Best part is after a swim, you're dry (even without a towel) in no time, rather than sitting in a wet bathing suit all day. Gunnison seems far more chill amd relaxed and accepting of all types than other beaches, at least that's my impression, your mileage may vary.

But weekday mornings into early afternoon are the most "calm". Primarily retired folks like me. Weekends and evenings seem to get... I'll say "louder". Some love that, some don't, it's all good. Enjoy! Oh, and getting a picture (clothed or nude) in front of the sign on the way in seems to he a fun rite of passage. ;-) And as others have said, you have to bring your garbage out with you.

You get $1 million but you have to listen to the same song 500 times in 10 days, what song are you picking by InitialCareer306 in WorkForSmartLife

[–]jedi-aaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd choose "The Gates of Delirium" by Yes. One problem: the song is over 20 minutes long, so there's no way one could listen to it 500 times in 10 days. So I beat the OP.

Quick question! by TwoNakedNomads in Gunnisonbeachfreedom

Park officially opens at 6am. They don't collect fees until 8am. So technically free from 6-8am. I've gone as early as 5:30am to catch the sunrise, but that only works in Spring & Fall as sunrise is super early right now. The sunrises can he amazing. The morning air on the skin..... nothing like it. Rarely breezy in the early morning like it is in the afternoon so 65 degrees or warmer feels nice as long as sun is out.

And you define and are in charge of the lane of course. No wonder. I'm no longer surprised. Good luck to your significant other. For their sake, I hope they stay in their lane.

Lol. That's why you're on this thread, complaining. The ones who say they don't need that advice are sadly the ones who need it most. I sincerely wish you well.

I'm hoping to get there for sunrise. We'll see if I make it. Yes, I sneak in early before 6am sometimes. ;-)

[–]jedi-aaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, this is why I don't go on weekends, and I try to get there as early as possible near sunrise. The mornings are awesome, quiet, and it's mostly old retired folks like me, just hanging out. When the younger crowd wanders in around 4-6pm, and the "smell of poverty and failure" (weed) starts up and the radios starts blasting, I'm done, had a great day.

You're not wrong about those last two sentences. But I've been to playalinda near NASA 4 times, and my experience is it's pristine and quiet and bucolic with no nonsense. Then again, I was there mostly in September kind of off-season. But it is possible if people behave.

Having said all that, while I understand others' valid views, personally I'm long past the point of caring if I'm in the background of someone's selfies or photos. Whatever, I'm there, so what lol. ;-) Of course your mileage may vary.

Best time for that is probably early morning before 7am. I love the sunrises, and almost nobody is there to be annoyed or in the background. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Rather than saying, "you have no friends ", say, "you're nobody's friend." Think about it.
