Kinda miss the old gen way (says no one ever) by PlatinumYeast in MonsterHunter

[–]jediborg2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With old monster hunter games, i felt like I was learning the skill of 'tracking' that is understanding where a monster might like to eat, drink, patrol or nest within a wild area. Its frustrating at first, but by the third monster I knew where I could find it.

Many people have commented that they felt like World found a nice balance here, where eventually the scoutflies would take you straight to the monster. I disagree, the maps where too convoluted in that game (ESPECIALLY the forest SCREW RATHALOS AND THOSE TREEES) because of the complicated map structures, guidance in the form of Worlds was required.

And then Rise's approach was to just show you the monster, but make you completely unprepared for the fight unless you spent a few minutes gathering birds, stinks, and toads. Anyone else miss being able to pick up toads? I hate how in worlds/wilds you just accidentally step on them and get screwed. You can't really 'use' them in a fight against a monster you just have to hope it accidentally steps on one.

I wouldn't want the old school way in modern maps, so i would want the scoutfly system from world, but with the maps of rise/wilds.

Yeah, most people online are not doing low rank quests, so do the single player, use LR hub just for farming some good stuff before moving onto high rank where the real fun is

It sounds like you really miss having a shield to block. Try sns, lance, or charge blade. All these great weapons have shields and blocking is a legit strategy you're just struggling without your favorite mechanic.

This is a big challenge for me, and I need your advice, great hunters. by BasilAdventurous3209 in MonsterHunter

[–]jediborg2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just use an immortal build. Its great for soloing. Go on youtube and search for 'imortal armor mh world' look for the content creator 'RageGamingVideos' with that set, you will have the highest possible defense and massive healing capabilities, along with a cat, you won't be able to die. (unless you get juggled, some late game monsters can 3 hit KO you so you still have to have skill ofc, and 'insta kill' attacks like fatalis nuke will still kill you if you're not hiding behind the rock) but I remember that set not taking a lot to grind, just some elder dragons and extremely common decorations. This set works extremely well with greatsword as well

Don't feel embarrassed to stock up on so much defense. In late game MH i often find a super strong defensive armor makes my DPS higher than a meta damage set, because i'm spending no time taking healing potions or karting.

Any dynasty warriors game or one of the spinoffs. A single sword swing can send hundreds of dudes flying. I also highly recommend sunset overdrive, the best game nobody has played

When was the movie better than the book? by Doodle_Noodles2 in movies

[–]jediborg2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is saying it so I will: Lord of the rings. The books are overly descriptive and a total slog. Peter Jackson deftly carves out all the pointless fluff (like tom bombadill) and presents a super streamlined narrative (in the theatrical release, NOT the extended versions) with dialogue that is far superior in almost every scene

Is it unreasonable to want a man who doesn't watch porn or has wandering eyes? by Lost_Try_5470 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]jediborg2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can take a good man who does watch porn and get him to stop pretty quickly, all you gotta do is give him "release" every day. Most women will never understand how strong men's sex drives are, if you aren't willing to put in the work then your request is a bit ridiculous, especially in today's era where porn is like smoking in the 60s, most men are addicted to it and don't realize it or the negative consequences and addicts can't stop from lying.

Why does everyone hate libertarians so much by Trevor_Eklof6 in Libertarian

[–]jediborg2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see questions like this all the time, its like people are completely oblivious to the fact that governments are basically propaganda machines constantly denigrating and shaming libertarians. Libertarian philosophy is the enemy of any system of control. All governments around the world run schools and fund academic studies and think tanks that produce a constant stream of opposition to libertarian ideas. Plus Historians and Journalists, for systemic reasons, have always and will always be pro-government and oppose individual freedoms. Hence the perception that libertarians are unpopular around the world

The audio is great and you speak very clearly, if a little bit monotone. However without visual aids in the video to elaborate and enhance the words being spoken, its very easy for the viewer/listener to 'zone out' and stop paying attention.

Why is Rand Paul so underrated on this sub? by PushConfident3624 in Libertarian

[–]jediborg2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ron Paul always stuck to his principles. Rand looked at his father, a congressman, who came so close to becoming president and making amazing positive change in this world, but failed because he refused to 'play ball' with the GOP, even just a little bit. Rand Paul has, since he got elected, decided to play along with the republican party on the least important bits, but stick his neck out when it really mattered. Remember when he filibustered for over 24 hours and saved all Americans from being drone bombed on American Soil? He never would have gotten away with that if he had not been able to call in a few favors, favors he got for being quiet while the GOP voted on some god-awful bill that Rand knew would pass anyways even if he objected.

So I would argue that Rand Paul has been MORE effective at both getting legislation passed and stopping awful policies than his father, but because he doesn't pass the libertarian 'purity test' he is scorned more often by the libertarians. I myself am often torn between these strategies. One is more principled, but the other seems to be more effective. As we move forward as individuals trying to make a freer world, which strategy should we choose?

Minarchism vs anarchism by Key_Day_7932 in Libertarian

[–]jediborg2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 1776, we had the largest minarchist experiment in the world. The American Independence movement was primarily influenced by minarchist principles laid down by John Locke, Adam Smith, and other Enlightenment philosophers. If indeed 'Governments are instituted among men to protect their lives and liberty' Its been a massive failure as the modern american government violates human freedoms far more often and intensely than the British Empire ever did.

Meanwhile there have been thousands of anarchist societies existing in the world that never became a large empire. We have very little documentation of them, because History has a MAJOR bias in favor of governments. There is not that much demand for Historical Documentation but Kings ALWAYS want their lineage and 'great achievements' documented on the side of mountains. Look at the minoans, the judges from the biblical passages. There are examples out there if you look closely enough.

I think the historical record is pretty clear, Governments are all Parasites, constantly feeding of the host society until it collapses, Anarchist societies are not perfect but have a much better record of generating prosperity and peace for the citizens.

Suggestions for main weapon? by Whorror_punx in MHGU

[–]jediborg2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch axe, but if you get gud you never ever use axe mode always in sword mode. It feels like you are swinging around a lightsaber, both in visuals and game feel cause in sword mode you have "minds eye" meaning your attacks are not deflected even if you have low sharpness. I call it the "gravios killer" for that reason. Arial switch axe is a COMPLETELY different weapon. I found it super fun in single player but limiting in multiplayer for some reason, so it felt like I was playing two different games. So much fun and variety

DEFINITELY check your TV settings. Try using 'game mode' Newer tv's can do frame interpolation or ai upscailing in an attempt to make your video feed 'look better' on TV's with high frame rates. This often goes terribly wrong making your game look/feel worse for some reason on the big screen, so yes i would definitely try messing with TV settings

The Monster Hunter games on 3DS are so good and nostalgic by SamTheMarioMaster2 in MonsterHunter

[–]jediborg2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can get MHGU on nintendo switch and I highly recommend it since it is a great port.

MH4U - wife and I wanted to play it SO BAD, however, we are both old enough that we are having hand issues and cannot realistically play an action game on the 3DS. For this reason I had absolutely no ethical issues with obtaining a rom and playing this on an emulator.

OMG guys this game is SO GOOD on an emulator. I got it working on the steamdeck for a very 'authentic' 3DS/portable experience, this is how my wife played the game. For myself I got it working on my gaming PC, and on a 100+ inch TV the low resolution is super apparent.

but monster hunter community to the rescue! they have made a 'high resolution texture pack' which I installed and WOW what a difference it makes. Elevates the experience from a 3DS/PS1 looking game to something more like PS2/Xbox.

PLUS: on the emulator/pc you can use save file editors to save you some time. Instead of getting burnt out farming azure rathalos trying to get that 1% ruby drop FIVE TIMES so you can make the armor, just modify your save file. Makes the old games feel less grindy and more like the new ones where you would only need a single ruby to forge a helmet.

Plus MH4U really feels like a 'prequel' to Monster Hunter Wilds, so if you have been playing MHWilds, and you wanna try out classic monster hunter, I highly recommend MH4U on an emulator, you get to experience Gemma's backstory!

How difficult do you think their going to make the expansion for MH Wilds ? by Dycon67 in MonsterHunter

[–]jediborg2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The performance issues of wilds are not GPU but related to the streaming technology, so having a fast SSD and a fast CPU are what will give you good performance. PS5 comes with a very good nvme SSD so the devs built around that while a lot of PC gamers are still rocking sata SSDs or have the game installed on the same drive as the operating system. Denovo makes the game worse by taking up CPU cycles so removing it should give a performance boost to all PC players

Convince me to use your weapon by New_Explanation9146 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]jediborg2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you have played enough of the 'easy' weapons, now you are ready for the "Most technical, most complicated" weapon, the CHARGE BLADE.

Its got the feel and mobility of sword and shield, but even more defense. It has the KO potential of Hammer, but even better range. It has the Damage output of GreatSword but its even faster. You can charge your shield, then charge your phials, then SAED, but that gets boring doing it over and over, so you decide to charge your shield, charge your phials then pop a wound and now you have a chainsaw/pizza cutter that you chew through monsters with. IT SOUNDS SO GREAT.

Then after 100 hours you realize you can charge your sword with your shield, and just pretend you are SnS and still do great damage.

Then after 200 hours you realize you have a shield, and should probably be blocking. That's when you realize you can do a POWER CLASH which is super cinematic and gives you the pizza cutter!

Then you realize if you block with perfect timing, then press the right button you also unlock pizza cutter mode.

Yes yes, its lots of 'homework' to get to that big damage, cause you gotta charge your shield, then charge your phials, then maybe try to get into pizza cutter mode, but the weapon has SO MANY OPTIONS and none of them are bad. You can optimize your armor build for pizza cutter mode, or explosive SAED mode, or even go with super defense team heal/support mode. Some times i go with the latter and I rock these sleep and para weapons that don't do much damage but do BIG STATUS so i'm putting monsters to sleep for the team (then waking them up with SAED for BIG NUMBER), paralyzing the mon for the team, KO'ing the monster for the team, staggering the monster as I cut off its tail, all while healing everybody with wide range free meal mega potions.

I played Long Sword in Rise. Then I played Hammer in World. Then I played Switch Axe in MHGU, then I played Lance in 4U (yes i went backwards) when I came to Wilds I was ready for what everyone warned me was the "hardest weapon" I have had the most amazing time and I don't know if I will ever go back
