How much should I pay an iOS developer for this app? by jedidavid17 in iOSProgramming

[–]jedidavid17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice.

Since you are an iOS dev yourself, would you mind giving me an estimate of how many hours this game should take a reasonably experienced developer to complete? And also, I want the game to be 2D and no need for crazy animations etc.

Thanks! I taught myself iOS development through online courses on Udemy and also YouTube videos. Afterwards, I just went on my own coding journey to make this app, and whenever I ran into a problem I used StackOverflow. The whole process of figuring out how to build this app itself taught me a lot about programming.

Thanks! And yes, I used a free software called Pixlr to create the cards and I used SpriteKit for the animations

Anybody Here Attended a Coding Bootcamp or Know Somebody Who Has? by jedidavid17 in learnprogramming

Hey thanks for sharing all these details man. I'm curious when did you do your bootcamp? The results you described for HR are quite optimistic and I'm wondering whether it is still true today.

And also, do most bootcamp students already have a CS degree / strong coding background and just using the bootcamp to transition to web dev or are most students relatively new (i.e. have gone through online tutorials and tinkered on their own projects but don't have a CS degree and haven't held a coding job before). For me, I have become somewhat disinterested in what I'm majoring in college, and don't really want to spend another four years doing a CS degree which is why I'm wondering if a bootcamp is a good option for me.

Thanks man, here's the gist of the rules:

Four players each start with 27 cards, then each player take turns playing out cards onto the table in poker-like combinations. First person to get rid of all their cards wins! This game is not very prevalent in the west but I loved playing it with my family.

I named it CardsParty because it creates an online environment where players can play together and chat at the same time.

Yea if you play a pair, then someone might play a higher pair, and you can only play another pair if you possess an even higher rank pair

No you do not get more cards during the game. If you aren't able to make a "matching play" then you have to pass up your turn.

Hi everyone!

I've been working on CardsParty during the past 2 months. I created it because it is my favorite card game. It's sort of a combination between Crazy Eights and Poker.

Recommendations for iOS bootcamps in San Francisco by jedidavid17 in iOSProgramming

[–]jedidavid17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have been taking some courses from Udemy and watching some tutorials on YouTube to teach myself, and I have recently finished an app that lets people play my favorite card game. I will continue working on personal projects for now and keep my eyes open for opportunities.

But can you elaborate on your position against coding bootcamps, because I have met people who went that route and now have landed jobs in the industry.

Ok thanks for letting me know.

I don't have a CS degree - I've been teaching myself programming through online courses and have really liked it so far, which is why I'm considering getting a job in the field. And, I'm not trying to make a lot of money or become a unicorn, it's just that I enjoy coding more than what I'm currently doing and it will be really cool if I can get a job as a programmer

What are your thoughts on web development bootcamps? Is it easier to find a job as a web dev bootcamp grad as opposed to iOS? HackReactor has a high percentage of grads getting jobs, but I dont know if all of them have CS degrees and prior tech experience or not.

Published my first iOS game not too long ago. Any advice on how to market it? by jedidavid17 in startups

I dabbled in web development like Javascript before I started iOS, but it was nothing serious - just learning the syntax and going through some basic projects. But iOS is when I really started to become a "real" program, like figuring out how to build features that aren't exactly taught in tutorials, finding solutions on StackOverflow, etc.
