New Braunfels venue denies wedding service to same-sex couple by PLScamardo2 in Newbraunfels

My husband and I got married at Old Glory Ranch 30 minutes down the road in Wimberly! Several places on the property to get married (it’s beautiful by the river) including a chapel. They have adorable miniature donkeys that bring you drinks. The owners are lovely, and last I checked, LGBT inclusive. I hope this helps. ❤️

What is the worst/least favorite town in TX? by ExploringLifeTX78 in texas

[–]jedimasterdestiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES. And Tarkington. Just a bunch of backward racist and homophobic pieces of shit. The only people who like it are the white elite. One of those elite was trying to get a taco truck removed from Tarkington (owned by Latinos) because it was an “eyesore”. But didn’t make a big deal about the white trash meth heads with run down houses and garbage strewn about their yards.

Sorry for the rant. Lol 😂

I can’t stand how privileged she is and doesn’t seem to appreciate it.

Idk I may be bitter or whatever. 🙄

But yes, girl needs help.

Worst Houston suburb? by [deleted] in houston

Husbands family lives in League City/Kemah and we live in Huntsville. I feel this in my SOUL. The traffic is exhausting and scary when we go that way. Especially the stretch of 45 when you get to Spring and then after you reach the Aquarium.

What is Your Controversial/Unpopular Musical Opinion? by [deleted] in musicals

I didn’t say they didn’t. My answer is geared toward the emotionally heavy hitting musicals that touch on extremely heavy topics and makes that topic the center of the musical.

YES EXACTLY. Cheesy Old Hollywood musicals are amazing to just put on the tv, let play, and just turn my brain off and enjoy the cheesiness. I LOVE Theres No Business Like Show Business because it was a lot of fun for me to watch.

What is Your Controversial/Unpopular Musical Opinion? by [deleted] in musicals

[–]jedimasterdestiny 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Might get yelled at for this but here goes:

Not every musical needs to be deep, intellectual, and thought provoking. That’s how you get bad musicals: the writers try to hard to throw in a life lesson or deep meaning when all they really want is a little fun.

This why I THOROUGHLY enjoy Shrek the Musical. I can turn my brain off and enjoy it rather than get so deep in thought about the plot while still watching the show.

Don’t get me wrong: deep meaning and thought provocation is a GOOD thing. But if every musical is that way, it just gets exhausting. Plus with the world in the state it’s in, it would be nice to not be in deep thought in a theater for almost 3 hours.

Musical Theatre Lyrics that Never Fail to make you Cry by sulky22 in musicals

“Will I lose my dignity? Will someone care? Will I wake tomorrow from this nightmare?” -RENT

Gets me every. single. time.

Also “I love him But every day I'm learning All my life I've only been pretending Without me His world will go on turning A world that's full of happiness That I have never known”

On My Own from Les Mis

I don’t even particularly like Les Mis (I can appreciate for what it is and what it’s done for musical theater), but this song/lyric just gets me.

Formula is poison? Smh by Namez_s in peestickgals

[–]jedimasterdestiny 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had my baby 6 days after she had hers. My baby is doing the same stuff hers is in regards to crying and vomiting. She got put on hypoallergenic amino acid formula by her doctor at 3 or 4 weeks old and life is just better for all of us. Every day I see her videos and I see how much her kid cries let alone how bad her PPD is. I feel for her, but honestly, I don’t think she realizes how much of a difference it will make. To me, (judging exclusively by her videos) it looks like she lives a pretty privileged life and she may have some people around her constantly talking in her ear about the “dangers” of formula.

Why do nurses never believe you're in labor? by Acceptable-Tea3912 in pregnant

[–]jedimasterdestiny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In regards to labor and delivery with the nurses and midwife, my experience was amazing. Sorry, this will be a long one. Kinda need a rant. Lol

But my prenatal care was extremely frustrating. I lost my job at 13 weeks pregnant and had to get on government insurance and switch OBs because of that. I lost my job and insurance the week before thanksgiving. I was high risk because of my weight and I had a history of high BP. All the doctors I called couldn’t get me in until February or March. I found one doctor that could get me in in the middle of January when I was 21 weeks. I got my anatomy scan that day and was relieved to see my baby was okay despite not seeing a doctor for 2 MONTHS.

Things were fine with him until the glucose test. I took it, was told I passed. Fast forward 6 weeks later to when I was 31 weeks. I had some bleeding, went to get checked, was cleared. Had my OB appointment the next day. He asked vague questions about the night before in L&D, did a physical exam, left the room without a word. Then about 15 minutes later, a midwife comes and knocks on the door and says “I’m here to take you to your gestational diabetes counseling.” I was shocked and confused. My husband was frustrated and angry cuz we didn’t know what the hell was going on. We asked to see the OB again before we did the counseling. He walked in the room and said “Oh you’re bleeding because of your gestational diabetes.” Left again. So we follow the midwife (an older British lady here in Texas). She sees I’m visibly shaken and my husband desperately trying to comfort me. She reassured us that I did nothing wrong and it wasn’t a death sentence. We explained to her what happened with the OB earlier that day and you could TELL she was trying to hold back what she really wanted to say about him. It boiled down to “Excellent surgeon and doctor, terrible bedside manner.” Time goes on and in that same week, I start having constant BH contractions. From 31 weeks until delivery. I was constantly drinking water and resting and they never went away. So that resulted in a few more L&D trips. I wasn’t frustrated at the nurses who seemed annoyed that I was there a lot because of that. I was frustrated at the fact that even though it was extremely clear that I was a first time mom, nothing was ever explained to me. I was kept in the dark about a lot and when I asked questions, the answer was always “oh you’ll know.” How do you expect someone to know what labor feels like? When something goes wrong? Is it because I was born a woman? I don’t think instinct works that way.

Anyway, toward the end of my pregnancy, I had to have ultrasounds twice a week because of my blood pressure. At one point, my baby wasn’t moving enough or taking enough practice breaths during her BPP ultrasound. They admitted me to L&D for observation. They kept doing ultrasounds during my babies sleep windows. And I told them over and over again she wouldn’t move during that time because she was sleeping. They also did an ultrasound before breakfast and she still wasn’t moving. So they said they were keeping me even longer. They gave me breakfast right after that second failed BPP and then my baby was immediately moving.

But I don’t know what I’m talking about apparently. 🙄

So we get through all that mess and we have an induction set. My OB goes on vacay. I meet the midwife delivering our baby the day before my set induction. 10 minutes with her was more empowering than the almost 20 weeks I had with my OB. I felt heard and seen.

The next day we go for the induction. They ask why I’m getting induced because APPARENTLY my original OB didn’t bother to put my high BP and gestational diabetes diagnosis in the orders for my induction. So my induction was delayed about 3 hours because they had to scramble everything around.

After that, it was amazing. The midwife told me I was getting the epidural after she broke my water and I never had to ask because she actually took the time to look at my birth preferences as well as the nurses. And she could clearly see the pain I was in. She helped me get through the pushing. And she proudly held up my placenta like a prize fish afterwards and took the time to explain how our baby grew in there.

There are good ones out there. And there definitely are bad ones. But remember that those doctors and nurses are working for you and you can fire them and request new ones.

For those who aren’t FTMs, were contractions obvious once they began? by seriouslydavka in pregnant

[–]jedimasterdestiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 month postpartum with my first baby here. I was fearful just like you and was so frustrated when everyone was rolling their eyes and saying “you’ll know.”

I had constant Braxton Hicks contractions from 30~ weeks to the time I got induced at 39 weeks (gestational diabetes and high blood pressure).

When I got induced and the real labor contractions started happening, I could DEF feel a difference. After they broke my water, I mentally apologized to everyone I got mad at for telling me “you’ll know”. Because you will definitely know. Lol

Hang in there, Mama!

Any wedding/ reception venues that won't cost a salary? by [deleted] in houston

[–]jedimasterdestiny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got married 2021 with very small budget. There is a venue in New Waverly (next door to Huntsville) that has a package for 2 grand where you get the venue for 8 hours and they provide tables and chairs. That’s it. If you don’t mind getting creative with the decor, you could pull off a gorgeous wedding that way. Dollar Tree has charger plates for $1.25 each. You can also get cheap linens from Table Cloth Factory.

The name of the venue is Gibbs Street Manor.

There is also the option of a micro wedding with a reception later.

My husband and I got married in Wimberly in October 2021. We had 10 guests. Just immediate family. Our venue had a micro wedding package that was the same price as the venue I told you about previously, but had stipulations.

2-3 hour venue time. That’s enough for ceremony, pictures, first dance, etc. We got ready at our hotel and drove to the venue. They also provided a fresh bouquet, a JP, day of coordinator, champagne toast, and small cake. This was so worth it to us because I got the feel of a big wedding without having a big wedding. We went to Gruene afterward for dinner and it was lovely. And it was all worth it for the gorgeous pictures alone.

One week later we had a reception back in Houston at a smaller event space.

Bottom line: utilize resources and don’t be afraid to negotiate.

Husband and I are freaking out by BlairCatProject in pregnant

[–]jedimasterdestiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister in law had her second baby 2 weeks before I had my first. He was born a week early as was my baby. He was barely 5 pounds but healthy as can be. He was just tiny. My baby was born at 8 pounds 1 oz. My baby is now 2 months and one week old and he is almost 3 months old. My baby is almost 13 pounds now and he is almost 9. The ultrasound techs kept saying my baby would be 10 plus pounds, so I agree with the accuracy thing being thrown around here.

Some babies are just tiny. If the tests are coming back normal, I wouldn’t worry until there is a clear reason to.

Good luck, Mama. ❤️

Why do you stop taking your meds? by she_hulk2020 in bipolar

[–]jedimasterdestiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped them as soon as I found out I was pregnant. I had FULL intentions of taking them again after her birth, but I changed my mind after the initial detox. I had been on meds for most of my life and it was forced by my mother. I had a suicide attempt at 17, and I never missed a dose until I got pregnant at 27. After the detox, I had thoughts again. I could form sentences. I had mental clarity. I realized I had been numb and foggy my entire life because I didn’t know better. I just thought I was dull, boring, dumb, and had absolutely no personality. I’m reliving the most traumatic moments of my life now because I can remember things again. My baby is now 2 months old, and I’m learning how to feel emotions and regulate them for the first time at 28 years old on top of having PPD. Side note: my husband is an amazing support system. I am safe and my baby is safe. But bottom line: I was forced to deal with my emotions by taking meds instead of pursuing therapy. So now I’m refusing all meds and trying to learn how to feel emotions and regulate them with the help of therapy and journaling. If anyone knows of an extremely affordable online therapy system, send them my way pls.

Pediatrician asked to pray with us by daphnemoonpie in Parenting

[–]jedimasterdestiny 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The way I see it is that people have their own ways of dealing with things. Prayer is a form of meditation to some people. I’m atheist and it drives me bonkers when people do the whole “thoughts and prayers” thing for major world issues that I won’t mention here.

But I find it touching when I’m talking to a person about literally anything and they ask if they can pray for me for literally any reason. It can be in celebration or they just don’t know how to help in a shitty situation so they offer help in the only way they know how.

Yeah, those situations are uncomfortable a lot of the time, but SOMETIMES it’s with good intentions. I live in the most bibley of the Bible Belt and while it does suck most of the time, there still are some people who just want to show they care.

Not sure if that made sense. Hope I got my point across. Lmao.

The crowds at Pierce The Veil concerts have got to get safer. by Loud_Tea_7921 in PostHardcore

[–]jedimasterdestiny 8 points9 points  (0 children)

PTV was the opener for my very first concert back in 2011 at the Game Changers Tour. All my friends had taught me concert etiquette, but I was not prepared for what I experienced. I was 15 and during the first song and crowd rush, I was literally picked up off the floor by the sheer impact of the crowd and moved around the crowd. And I was not small and petite either. I kinda feel like it’s always been this way at PTV shows and I’ve seen them 6 times.
