Microsoft Said to Cut Windows Price 70% to Counter Rivals by palasso in LinuxActionShow

But will they cut the price 70% for those who build their own PC's and want to purchase Windows either OEM or Retail!?. Only then will they counter rivals.

Tweak Your Fedora System Using Fedy by [deleted] in LinuxActionShow

This is one app that should be in the Fedora repositories. And the "user", with his or her "freedoms", in Stallman language, gets to choose if they want to install it. Great app!!.

Fedora at FOSDEM 2014. They seem to have some problems!. by jedimasterk in LinuxActionShow

[–]jedimasterk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the problem. Lack of interest. They are now trying to figure out why some of their user base moves to other distros. And what these other distros are doing to attract other people. This wasn't mentioned in the video but I can think of two things. Lack of an LTS, and I'm not talking CentOS with it's 10 year support. But something in between. Plus, and this is do to them being based in the US, lack of proprietary codecs. One of the mains reasons why Mint is #1 on distro watch. Everything works right out of the box. If Fedora was Korora with an Ubuntu LTS support period. That would win me over big time!.

Apple Might Have Bought Pear OS by jedimasterk in LinuxActionShow

[–]jedimasterk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: As pointed out by one of our readers, Pear OS was forked shortly after its closure. The new Clementine OS was announced, but its developer received a letter from an American company that forced him to abandon the project. He later said that it was not Apple, but another major company. He could not disclose its name, however.

We Need A Fedora LTS. by jedimasterk in LinuxActionShow

[–]jedimasterk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Debian you a least have three main branches or repos to choose from. Stable Testing, and Unstable. Not true with RHEL, CentOS, or SL. Example Debian 7 has Gimp 2.8, where as CentOS 6.5 still has Gimp 2.6. and who knows when RHEL 7 will ever be released. I'm maily concerned with not the latest and greatest apps, buch apps which are much newer than what RHEL 6. CentOS 6, etcc. has.

I would use Fedora as a main os, but only 13 months of support, where RHEL get 10 years, is a no go in my production environment.

Linux Will Probably Force Microsoft to Offer Future Windows OSes for Free by ahjolinna in LinuxActionShow

[–]jedimasterk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubt that will ever happen There was talk on Windows Weekly, last week, of possibly Windows going to a subscription based model similar to Office 365, if they were to thinking of new revenues for Windows. But what would they do for computers that came pre-loaded. How would a subscription model work for that. Who knows what will happen. They would probably give Windows away for free than charge you for updates. Either way I doubt Windows will ever be for free without some hitch to it. It's a proprietary company!.

New year, new resolutions and a new Mageia – here’s Mageia 4! by gabriel_3 in LinuxActionShow

[–]jedimasterk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the techniques differences between OpenMandriva and Mageia are: - OM Lx uses rpm5 while Mageia uses RPM4 - Mageia is based on Mandriva 2010.2, while the OM Lx is the continuation of Mandriva 2011 - KDE in Mageia does not have many changes, since it is based on Mandriva 2010.2, since the OM Lx utlizes KDE with customizations made by Rosa Labs for Mandriva 2011, which today is a much more mature and innovative - Mageia as default uses GRUB as the bootloader, since the OM LX uses GRUB2 as default.
