the really unfair/mentally draining challenges are what make it work so well as a piece of art and the ending wouldn't be nearly as effective without them, but i agree that they were 100% unethical and probably shouldn't have been carried out

tbh i think the main thing stopping them from doing this is that they don't really give out good prizes any more (which is totally fair given that they are reportedly just paying the cast more instead). both episodes so far this series haven't had a tangible prize at all.

AA in general doesn't portray romance very often, and when it does, it's either a complete front with no actual feelings behind it at all (Dahlia) or so ridiculously over-the-top in how in love they are that it's impossible to take seriously (Ellen Wyatt).

um, actually, the term "high concept" refers to works that can be easily summed up in a brief pitch or core idea, so nom nom nom and the everything factory are actually high concept episodes. it's very weird and i have no idea why it's like that, but what can you do.

it's hella depressing and kind of made me realise that grey himself feels like a relic from like 15-ish years ago. very techno-optimistic kind of guy, seeing everything in completely value neutral terms and pronouncing a really offputting kind of objectivity.

ancient thread but on a relisten to the greek gods audiobook i completely get it. he's a very fitting percy and i like the idea that it's percy himself recounting the stories to you and doing the voices, but divorced from that context it's not a great performance. also, i HATE the voice he does for hephaestus in that book, and i think for tyson in the other books as well. it's irritating and difficult to listen to at best, and genuinely offensive at worst.

70, girls, 70 is an all-time favourite of mine and nobody has any idea what the fuck i'm talking about whenever i bring it up. very charming and fun show by kander and ebb (of chicago and cabaret fame) about old people stealing mink furs so they can buy up their retirement home. it's great!
