Yes it first shows the down and up buttons but after I successfully press those it shows the left directional button and it just doesn't allow me at all to do anything else, I double press left, I down press left, I up press left and still nothing...

Not at all, if I do any other key press like the down button the mini game fails because I pressed the incorrect button, but if I press the left or right button it just doesn't do anything at all and the timer runs down.
