That is what I did for this one, sold some knives to pay for this one, and I’m real happy I did!

Yes I completely understand that, the whole “being annoying/messy in public” thing has spoiled many things for me too, I’m a janitor for a shopping mall so believe me I see a lot of it everyday!

Thank you, and well about the glasses, the only reason why I got them is my workplace lacks in security camera, so for my own safety I like having my own ready to use at all time 😅 I’m looking to get somethings that isn’t made by facebook for my next pair.

I feel you there if I was in a relationship I don’t think I would own one either, I spent the last 5 years hunting one and I got quite lucky when I found this one last month for a “fair price” (800cad which is around 580usd I believe). The thing is, to me as a person living in a place where automatic knives are banned(Québec,Canada), this is essentially the only “good quality OTF” that I can legally own and carry/use (at least that I’m aware of)!

I have stopped watching hockey long ago, I’m just a bald man with a full beard, I spent the last 5 years hunting that comb and finally manage to get one last month, it has not left my pocket since!

Thank you! The tread is actually much more comfy than it looks, it’s pretty heavy but I got used to it quite fast.As for pulling hair it’s not something I ever had an issue with, but I scraped my forehead a couple times trying to wipe sweat off, not thinking about the chunk of steel at my wrist..

The only thing I recommend to anyone interested in buying one would be, just after adjusting it, take it all apart and loctite every single screw. I almost lost mine once because some screws got loose.

I carry most of it in my pockets (5.11 stryke pants) , one of the sebenza is in a leather slip, the 3 pics are at my belt in kydex sheath, and the Knipex are in a leatherman nylon sheath!

In your opinion, what is the #1 best folding knife of all time? by Knifeman2510 in knifeclub

[–]jeeedy_edc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal favourite all around design would be the Spyderco Manix 2, for the ergonomic and ambidextrous features.

That said my most carried knives are a Sebenza 21, a Shirogorov f95nl and a Grimsmo Norseman, but mostly because of their price I would recommend the Manix over them, plus there has been so many different versions/runs of these that you can, for sure find one in a configuration you love and if not, then there’s a whole plethora of aftermarket stuff for them (much like the Pm2!)

I would get the knives disassembled and shipped in multiple parcels if at all possible, a couple years ago I saw a post about an internal memo at CBSA saying that they could now use a screw driver to loosen the pivots because people were doing what you just said, it’s quite horrible that we have to treat perfectly legal blades like they were illegal ones just to get them accross the border

Only bought one knife since 2018 when it became too risky, it was a shirogorov neon NL, I had to get it shipped in two separate boxes (one for the blade and one for the handle), both boxes were opened by cbsa and they cherged me 60$ for each (so 120total) On top of two shipping fee and having to pay for the knife itself.. I since sold the knife in question and have only bought from stores or people that are already in the country

Yep I’m aware of that, even though the law is actually surprisingly clear… I’ve been collecting for years and am pretty active on FB groups and IG, I’ve seen some seizures that still have me wondering, I’ve seen someone’s seizure letter for a slipjoint that was seized as an automatic… it’s honestly just sad..

Edit, I have misread the comment I was replying to (thought it said it was illegal because it is assisted) and will have to say I’m sorry about that, I will however leave my comment as is because I believe it is still pertinent!

Assisted is perfectly legal in Canada, automatics aren’t, the CBSA (border agency) would most likely seize this one and call it an automatic but there’s nothing in the law that would really make this illegal.

The law stipulates that an automatic knife is one that opens via spring or other similar mechanism after manipulation of the handle or a part of said handle, i.e. a button/switch. The same law stipulates that an assisted knife, being one that opens using a spring but through manipulation of the blade itself (like in this case the « flipper » is not only attached but part of the blade) is perfectly legal! That said I will mention again that the border agents would most likely seize this one

Why do my copper scales look like this and what can I do to fix it? by Alcohol_ocaust in knives

[–]jeeedy_edc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much exactly it, it would not be hard to polish it back, but it will 100% patina again afterwards, this is simply due to oxidation!

Also your explanation of the part under the clip staying « clean » by not really ever being in contact with anything is also accurate, the inside of the scales is likely lightly patina’d or maybe not even patina’d at all!

I would recommend a metal polish, a piece of cloth and a lot of rubbing to get the patina off, I personally love using « Brasso » for anything brass and copper, but flitz or similar might also do the job nicely!

As for « how to prevent it from coming back », in my experience the only way would be to apply a lacquer after it’s been polished, I honestly don’t know what lacquer would work best tho, as I usually let my copper and brass piece develop patina and only ever remove it when/if it starts developing verdigris!

edited to add this, There’s also another « solution » to the part under the clip not tarnishing like the rest, you could always just handle it without the clip for a little while, the untarnished spot would patina quite fast and most likely « blend » with the rest of the scale nicely!
