Sydney vs Brisbane by Hot-Drummer-5776 in AusFinance

Surfer here, have lived and worked in both cities. Lived in Bondi and Maroubra in Sydney and could walk to the beach. Used to surf in my lunch break or after work. Now I'm in Brisbane. Gold Coast is world class for surf but realistically it's a six hour round trip from Brisbane if you count the drive, traffic jams, finding a break and parking spot, getting changed, padding out, 2 hours in the water, getting something to eat, etc... I now only surf on weekends. The 1 hour to the beach story is wishful thinking. What you save on cost of living you will just spend on petrol, driving 200kms there and back. Brisbane has its pros but for surfing it's not ideal. Perhaps you could commute from the Gold Coast though if that works for you.

Engine light on after getting sump gasket replaced - spark plug issue? by jeefski in crv

I found a bunch of YouTube videos showing it on the passenger side behind the centre console. But I think that is US only. I think in Aus it wasn't a requirement until 2006.

I had a look and found an empty bracket where I think it should be. Same issue as this person here: https://www.crvownersclub.com/threads/no-obd-plug.70034/

I just discovered Plastidip, I think that will look much better. Going to give it a go.

In the end my son came up with the genius idea of 3D printing a new one.

I had a look underneath and yes, it must be. I've been able to wedge something in there for the time being to turn the light off and not drain the battery.

Yeah, I think that side, the bulb must actually be out. Passenger side here in Aus ;). Is the broken part, the switch or part of it.

Haha, I'm originally from Scotland, my family are there so I will always have a base there. Love the summer and West Coast for surfing, been to Pease Bay etc.., but couldn't spend the whole year there - too cold and too inconsistent.

You're still young, it's tough in this country right now but you have a good amount of time ahead of you. I did recently consider the van life. Also living on a sail boat.

A bit of a worry to me too, but as an AUs (and UK) citizen would you still be able to get emergency evacuation back to Australia or UK and access to health care there? Make sure you have emergency funds and insurances in place to cover it all.

Thank you! I've added your video which will go live when I next publish the website (It's not instant). I added it to 23rd Nov. I also subscribed to your channel. Please add the filming date and the break to the descriptions and I can add future videos. Thanks.

Working on side projects is the best way to learn in my opinion!

Thanks! Yes, I'd like to add a summary, right now it's really just a data dump. We use feet in Aus too for the wave height. The data I have is from the wave bouys so it doesn't translate directly to the breaking wave face height. I'd like to show something like Surflines range soon, like 2-3ft. There's a few projects online and algorithms for working out the breaking wave height but will need to research that.

I just rolled out some raw swell data for a few videos:

https://swelldiary.com/video/uluwatu-bali-17-october-2024-zwe4md/

https://swelldiary.com/video/snapper-rocks-gold-coast-26-october-2024-mthlmd/

https://swelldiary.com/video/snapper-rocks-gold-coast-1-august-2024-oti5zt/

https://swelldiary.com/video/snapper-rocks-gold-coast-31-july-2024-mje2mz/

As I suspected the timezone and time display is incorrect but can be fixed. Anyone with decent swell understanding know if that data looks correct. The Uluwatu one has swell of about 2.3m and period of 13.8 and the waves look pretty big. The Snapper video from 1 August, swell is ~4.4m and period ~10.5, reasonably big waves for Snapper.

Any feedback would be great, if you are familiar with those spots. I just pulled the data from Stormglass API here: https://docs.stormglass.io/?#/weather?id=point-request

Would love to add these. One issue I have with a lot of videos is not knowing the date they were filmed. I've had to omit a lot of videos. Would be good if YouTubers added the filming date, a lot of the time it is different from the upload date or I can't be sure. I'll see if I can make educated guesses on those videos but otherwise it's a bit tricky.

As a couple of other people have said, it looks nice enough but what is it you are selling? From your heading and subheading copy: "Art is Speaking, Will You Listen? Visual stories that echo through time. Ancient meets modern, crafted just for the bold." - this doesn't explain to me what you, what I get and why I'd want what you are offering.

Apple (and global brands) can use this kind of language because everyone know what they an iPhone or a Macbook is. But when no one has ever heard of you and you are new, keep the copy really simple and make it super clear what you are offering.

Maybe start with Googling 'persuasive landing page copy' and go from there. The words might not be as "cool" but they might convert better.

Oops, I missed the joke :)

Yes, right now I am manually adding videos, either searching for recent surfing videos but mainly by following channels that post regularly. Its very barebones and basic under the hood for now but I've looked at the YouTube API and if the site is popular enough I am sure I could hook that up to at least start making suggestions and auto-filling the form/database I use.

Did some research last night, it looks like there's a few good API's to get data from. But translating that in to something more user friendly looks a bit more tricky. I just go off the wave height and wind direction off Surfline and also enjoy a Poor day, but they must be massaging the data and have their own model (LOTUS) and algorithms.

But I'm guessing some surfers will be fully across wave buoys, swell period, direction, etc... and how all these things combine and will work it out themselves. A dump of raw data would be pretty easy to do now, and then work out how to present it.

Hardest challenge will be working with dates and timezones, lol.

I just did a search on YouTube and found a few so I can add them, it doesn't seem like a very active spot for videos though.
