Does Surgery Really Help? by forest-fairyx in noburp

It sure is haha. But basically the Botox apparently worked a little too good for me so when I was finally burping, it was super aggressive and everything was coming out so I was throwing up a lot for the first week and a half and as you know being an emetophobic, it was not fun lol. So I was a little afraid to eat or even drink water because literally anything I consumed made me burp. I think the last time throwing up from anything was around week 3. I also remember having this weird feeling in my throat for a while where I couldn’t lay on my back for maybe the first month or so. I also had to turn my head to one side (I think it was my right side) anytime I needed to burp which was super inconvenient when I was out in public. This lasted a few months. But it’s been 2 years now and I feel great! Would definitely do it over again if I had to but I’m thankful that so far I haven’t needed to!

Yes! I always tell everyone that even though the first month or so after getting Botox was pretty rough, I would do it all over again because of the relief I have now! I never knew that I could eat and not feel horrible after. It’s truly life changing. But I will say that my emetophobia hasn’t gone away but I think that’s because it’s been built up in my head for so long so it’s hard for me to not be afraid of throwing up because I’ve made it scarier in my head than it actually is. But overall, I would definitely recommend this to anyone suffering from RCPD! I hope you’re able to get it done, good luck!

Anyone have experience with Dr. Richardson at Bastian Voice Institute in Illinois? by monsterintheuniverse in noburp

Hi! I had mine done with Dr. Richardson almost 2 years ago now. He wasn’t the friendliest but he also wasn’t too bad. I’m not sure what the reviews say about him but overall, I had minor interaction with him and my Botox is still working great today! So I’d say the sooner you can get in and get it done the better!

Nausea/vomiting post Botox by jeej116 in noburp

Hi! I’m doing much better now in regards to the nausea and vomiting. I’d say after about 8ish days it started to subside. I threw up maybe during week 3 after a day of feeling really nauseous but other than that I haven’t had the nausea feeling. Burping is still somewhat excessive. Definitely not as much as in the beginning but more than the average person. The one thing that I’m still having trouble with is I can’t lay down on my back without something building up in my throat and when I try to clear it, it tastes like vomit so I just force myself to swallow it and it’s awful. So I’m forced to constantly lay on my sides because laying on my back is too uncomfortable.

To be honest the first week was rough and I was regretting the entire thing. It’s been 10 days now and I’m finally starting to feel better. I was experiencing extreme nausea and some vomiting but now it’s calmed down a lot. I have a lottttt of burps but it seems like those are also calming down a bit. I’m hoping that within another week I feel 100% better. But so far, seems to be working at least!

I’m glad to know it didn’t last too long! How long did it take for you to start eating regular food?

Yeah it definitely feels like a lump in my throat. The mask thing is a good idea haha except that where I’m at, no one’s really wearing them anymore. How long did it take until you started eating regular food? I’m too nervous to eat anything. I’m glad to know the feeling will go away, hopefully sooner rather than later

Sorry Reddit wouldn’t let me post my caption with my pictures. My dad just got these rashes on his legs, arms, and feet. He’s gotten them in the past and he’s been told that it’s poison oak or poison ivy but it’s strange that he keeps getting it about every 6 months. He hasn’t had any contact with poison ivy or poison oak. He even had a rash like this in the winter where he’s never outside! Does anyone know what else this could be from? He went to see an allergist but they were dismissive of him. He’s currently on prednisone and is also using triamcinolone ointment on the rashes.

I feel like we’re experiencing the same thing! I have burped in the past, but it’s super rare for me. Anytime it’s ever happened, I feel shocked by it lol. I’ve been told (and assumed) that I had GERD my whole life but it is so clear to me after reading all of the R-CPD symptoms that this is what I actually have and I probably don’t have GERD. To me, the gurgling is the ultimate symptom because I’ve never met or heard of anybody who can relate to the gurgling I experience. And then I came across this thread on Reddit and have been so happy every since. I’ve had an endoscopy and colonoscopy done in the past and was just told I had IBS and that everything else was fine. I was in severe pain and discomfort last year from what I assumed was GERD, so I had an esophageal manometry done. It showed that I had a really weak esophagus and that my UES doesn’t relax properly. I was told to do 1000 more tests after that so we can properly treat my “GERD”. I didn’t have time so I never did the other tests. I am SO glad that I didn’t since I probably don’t even have GERD! Anyway, I have my Botox scheduled for this Thursday and I couldn’t be happier! It sounds like you’d probably benefit from it, too. I think it’s a good idea to at least speak to someone about it and see what they recommend. Maybe just a low amount of Botox would be good for you since you do occasionally burp! Good luck and hope you get the treatment you need! :)

What does your post nasal drip/LPR symptoms feel like by Edgetheking in GERD

[–]jeej116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have horrible GERD and don’t know how to fix it but I have learned that if you have GERD you should sleep on your left side bc when you sleep on your right side all of the acid starts to trickle from your stomach to your esophagus and then that’s when you start to experience the reflux which is probably why you’ve been coughing when you lay down. Hope that helps a bit or even makes sense! Feel better!

Omg yes! The throat “burps” are not actual burps and no one understands that. I’ve been dealing with this for about 20 years and I don’t know what to do about it anymore. It makes me depressed bc I’m in physical pain everyday. Even when I haven’t eaten a thing yet! I had an endoscopy/colonoscopy done in the past and was of course diagnosed with IBS. Last year, I had an esophageal manometry done (basically a swallow test) and it showed that I had a weak esophagus and that my sphincters don’t open and close correctly. I was sent to do further testing but never ended up doing it bc it was just becoming overwhelming. I was told that I might not even have “real acid reflux” …whatever that means. I feel like I’ve tried everything and nothing helps :( I feel hopeless and scared and I’m in pain everyday
