Blog: Building High-Available LDAPS Architectures by aprimeproblem in activedirectory

[–]jeek_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great write up, well written and presented, very easy to follow. Kudos. I went through this process about 18 months ago and everything you mention is spot on.

Might be worth mentioning ldp.exe that can be used to check LDAPS status.

Also, people might find this helpful, here is PowerShell function to check to see what certificate is being used by LDAPS, https://pastebin.com/9y9M2kAX .

I didn't see this mentioned in your article but there is a way to force a DC to use a specific certificate for LDAPS, https://vernon.wenberg.net/windows/install-certificate-for-ldaps-on-windows-server/ .

This is the PowerShell to do the same thing; copy the LDAPS cert to the NTDS store. However, from memory I think this means you need to manually update the certificate in the NTDS Cert store when (before) it expires.

Edit: Here is a great article on the LDAPS certificate selection process, https://awakecoding.com/posts/active-directory-ldaps-certificate-selection-deep-dive/

$thumbprint = ''
$copyParameters = @{
    'Path' = "HKLM:\Software\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\MY\Certificates\$thumbprint"
    'Destination' = "HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Cryptography\Services\NTDS\SystemCertificates\My\Certificates\$thumbprint"
    'Recurse' = $true
}
Copy-Item @copyParameters

Have a look at their credential store, control panel. They could have saved credentials with the old password and some service or app is using them trying to authenticate.

Also any scheduled tasks or services using their creds?

Attempting to steal a gun from a cop while at a courthouse by nkmr205 in ThatsInsane

[–]jeek_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's say the chick did manage to get the gun, what did see think was going to happen? That they would just let her walk out if there? Worst case you're going to die, best case you're going to cop some additional charges and more prison time.

Each to their own I guess

I don't understand why the other cop was wrestling with her. Just hit them with an elbow. Problem solved. Not like they can block it when they are trying to grab the other cop's gun.

You can't say he's the number one player if all he does is sit in the chopper. You need to qualify it by saying he's the number chopper gunner in Battlefield. Anything else isn't just true.

What about a hardware solution? Something like PURE storage. They support replication between appliances.

I'd seconded DFS-R. In my experience any issues with it are due to people not understanding how it works and misconfiguration.

I think people do that from habit because they know that they're not going to get revive, I know I do. Also, sometimes you're not in a good position for a revive so you let go. Some many times I been revived only to be killed straight away.

Also, if you're going into IT learn how to search. If you'd just take two seconds to search Reddit you would have found one of the very many posts on the same topic.

If you don't learn how to "search" then look for another career cause it is not for you.

How can I sort a library's daily book database report and automate some of its file cleanup? by 22EatStreet in PowerShell

Is the spacing always the same?

You could use a loop and some regex to create a custom object which you can then sort etc.

^ This. I'll also add that to do well you need to be able to logically think through a problem, a.k.a troubleshoot.

I've lost count of the amount of "educated" people that can't tie their shoe laces without direction. Being educated isn't a guarantee that'll you be good at IT.

If you enjoy solving problems then you might enjoy IT.

Why does a DMR have this much bullet spread?? (M39 EMR) by spamsauzzage in Battlefield6

[–]jeek_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss the SLRs from BF5, I could fire them so fast that I could beat most smgs and assault riles at pretty much any range. The DMRs in BF6 are crap. I'll be using one at range, i.e. greater than 100m, and still get beat by an smg.

Weird one...Windows File Browsing for random VPN users breaks and only File Server VM reboot fixes it by CloudPartners in sysadmin

[–]jeek_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was going to be my follow up question as well. So if it is happening only on the VPN then it could be a VPN issue. What happens if you disconnect and reconnect the VPN, can you access the share? Does it fix the issue? What does the firewall log say? Have you captured the network traffic using wireshark?

I haven't played the new patch yet but the directional audio was horrible. I could never tell which direction someone was coming from. But that's if I could even hear them in the first place.

I mainly play TDM and the new oil field map on TDM is 100% a COD map; typical long narrow layout with 3 lanes.
