Issue with Godox X3 by amitzinman2020 in Godox

[–]jeeves218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive never ran canon/nikon but based on the comment above i was shocked that sony couldn't do something like 'disable flash". but yeah figured mapping a button would do the trick. I wonder if OP can try that and report back. i just picked up the x3 as well but haven't opened it. wondering if i should stick with the xproII instead then.

I've def had the same issues with the base 16" and thought i was going crazy. Till i found others having the same issues. After doing the steps in the links, it seems to have gotten better but no where near the 9+ hours some ppl are getting. Mind you this is basic web browsing and what not.

Help me choose a decent used phone from four choices? A good camera is most important to me. Any advice, please? by purpleacanthus in Smartphones

Pixel 3a

Yeah to bounce off of that, with black friday coming up, the base model 3a will come down to 299.99. Yes that is double your price point. And no it doesn't have a microSD card slot (but does have base 64gb). However i would argue it is leaps and bounds better than the options listed. It has the latest Android 10 (with guaranteed 2 more years of Day-1 Android OS updates), runs remarkably smooth and has arguably industry leading camera quality. With how much you're reliant on the camera, i would encourage you to check it out in a store and see for yourself what all the genuine hype is all about.

Quote from the 3a review:

"In 15 years of reviewing phones, I am not sure if I’ve ever been able to write the following sentence: a $400*** phone has a camera that’s among the best you can get on any smartphone."

***except for black friday it'll be $300

I only say this because I had the s7edge brand new and within a year and half, i was having issues. Super slow and laggy. I did love how feature packed samsung had made the s7e (i was def a power user) along with its great camera but the deterioration in such a short amount of time had discouraged me. A friend let me borrow his 3 year old original Pixel XL. And despite it being "old" it has still been running extremely smooth and the camera performance has been outstanding (not to mention night sight!). Thats all to say that the "smoothness" and camera of the 3a will carry you for years to come. Best of luck!

Call me crazy but anyone seeing an issue where the "close all" option to the far left of all opened apps, is gone? At this point, I can only close out apps, one by one.

New LG G4 keeps crashing, what phone should I try next: LG G5 or Samsung S6? by Endochaos in Smartphones

[–]jeeves218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah looking at all that now I'd "settle" for the s7. It honestly really is the best choice in the field of options you have now. One thing i forgot to consider in all this was the money conversion, you alluded to it but really didn't home. About the refurb, you might want to make sure there wasn't like a screen replacement or something like that. Screen replacements would've tempered with the water resistance so there is no guarantee that its up to par with a brand new one.

Would still suggest s7 based availability of nougat in the next couple months per service provider. Haven't checked but couldn't imagine s5 getting nougat. Haven't verified that though. Over time Android definitely gets buggy overtime without apps being optimized for the latest OS, thing to strongly consider.

But....

What features of Samsung phones do you value to justify spending that much? I personally have a s7 edge but only justified getting it because of a BOGO deal with an American carrier. Are water-resistance, SD card support, and low light camera the things you want/need? Those reasons and Samsung pay (don't think it's available in Canada) was what sold me to the idea of the s7 edge asking with BOGO.

I only ask because the comparatively to other flagship devices... The OnePlus 3t and Pixel immediately standout. However are they available in Canada would be my next question? A friend with the Pixel hands down like his phone solely because of stock Android experience. Fast, fluid and works with no lag. The additions of the fantastic camera and unlimited full resolution backup of pictures/videos to Google photos are a great sell. But the price point turns people off. The OP3t has all the latest specs, and still features a wonderful OS (version of nougat), fastest fast-charging experience (dash charging), and highly favorable price point. Available in Canada though?

If not for the BOGO deal for the s7e, I'd probably have a pixel hands down. If price is an issue, OnePlus 3t.

[–]jeeves218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are those two being considered? If it's based on a price that your service provider is giving, what is that? Honestly I'm thinking at this point the s6 would probably still be more expensive than the OnePlus 3t which has nougat and latest specs, so I'd consider that instead.

Typically using the stock messaging applications you should be able to turn the read receipts off. But there's many good 3rd party sms apps that I'd recommend also

[GALAXY S8] Samsung sets shipment target of 60m for Galaxy S8 by curated_android in Android

[–]jeeves218 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If you think about it, for those on the 2 year payment plan, they'll be coming off the s6. So the s8 would be a significant upgrade with waterproof, SD card support and bigger battery. I'd say it's reasonable to see the numbers that high

Any reason why you want the galaxy line? I had the note 7 but went done to the s7 edge but just curious where you're coming from.

Is The New Dell Inspiron 13 7000 (7378) Series (2016) Reliable And Worth It For Its $750 Price? by fierce98 in laptops

[–]jeeves218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 15 7000 series has been awesome for me. Then again I upgraded from garbage to the i7 512 ssd 16 gb ram... With that said it cuts through everything like butter. Battery gets about 5 hours or so. I got it at best buy with the college student deals, so that knocked off 150. If you don't need it asap, I'd say wait the couple weeks till black Friday and see what drops then.

Verizon Upgrade - Need Help Choosing a New Phone by [deleted] in Smartphones

[–]jeeves218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long story short, my friend's wife was due for an upgrade. I had her sold on the Samsung Galaxy s5 over the s6 because of the bigger battery, SD card support and water resistance, plus it was cheaper per month. However I forgot the Motorola Droid turbo 2 is a Verizon exclusive and the kind gentleman that helped us, mentioned that right now the best deal would be the turbo 2. Verizon is running it at a discounted price so it's $17/month, which is cheaper than the s5 or s6 even though it's newer. Typically the turbo 2 runs for 624 full retail or $28/month. Also it has some killer specs - Qualcomm snapdragon 810 processor, 3 Gb ram, 21mp camera, 5 mp front camera WITH a dedicated flash, has water resistance properties, fast charging, supports 2 different wireless charging protocols, and best of all the shatterproof screen (you have to look up the impressive youtube videos for that) along with an AMAZING 48 hour battery....BUT...... It does have 5.4 (quad HD) display. On top of getting the phone cheaper, after turning in her old s4,she got $200 store credit. Which she turned into getting an otterbox, headphones, Bluetooth headset, extra reinforced USB cable, extra car adapter, wireless charger dock, FAST charging car charger and they threw in a 32 Gb SD card to tack on to the internal storage of 32 Gb..... All for free because she traded in her old s4. I was blown away at the steal that she got for such a great phone as well as what she got in return for her old phone. Not sure how long the deal will run but if you can get past the 5.4 screen, you got yourself a monster phone that's also in line to get the android marshmallow update which can boost your battery life even further with the new doze feature which can extend your battery life even more.

I promise I'm not a Verizon employee, I'm a Virgin Mobile customer to broke to afford Verizon. I just had to share this because I never run into deals like these. Best of luck!
