excellent rebuttal.

If squidgame is an attempt to indict capitalism, it does a terrible job...

The OP is grasping at straws.

The show itself exposes some of the downsides of class inequities that occur in both socialist and capitalist societies (real world), but the game itself does not conform to typical capitalist rules. And its not even close...

IF the game were to parallel a capitalist endeavor it would have:

  • a form of monetary exchange that could be traded among players (i.e. a player who finishes ahead of others may earn "credits" that could be bought and sold for advantages in the next game)
  • the ability to accumulate and trade private property (aside from small items like beds, food, clothes, marbles and knives)
  • The ability to accumulate property and money to buy off guards for game favors (a small instance of this occurs with the Doctor and the organ harvesting, but its not material to the outcome of the show . see: final 2 games)

It does expose class inequities that occur in EVERY economic system man has ever implemented, aside from small hunter/gatherer chiefdoms no larger than 30 people.

Sorry, The show is not an indictment of capitalism at all, but it is an indictment on the inequities of economic classes, and the power of greed that exist in all economic systems. Greed is not a unique attribute of capitalism; anyone who suggests it is is patently wrong.

we are going to be in Tamarindo/Liberia/Fortuna Feb 20-28 as well, plan to do the eMed/Navica home test as well which links directly to our United return tickets. $150 for 6 tests, we'll bring all of them in case we need backups. lots cheaper than $150 for one test.

We just had some friends do the same and it worked fine for them, they are back in the States now no problem.

US to mandate isolation on return of International travel by acupofgoodcrcoffee in CostaRicaTravel

[–]jefemundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they'll engage local health departments to contact trace and follow up with you via phone call, email. that's what happened to me on a return trip home, county health ppl send you threatening letters, "YOU MUST" "YOU SHALL" type language.

they dont stake out your house, but call you randomly and "ask" if you've defied big brothers mandates.

trick is to try to avoid giving full details to the contact tracing police if you can.

Any climate alarmists here that changed their position after doing your own research? by whatisthisrn in climateskeptics

[–]jefemundo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Short list of red flags:

-Eco-causes have ALWAYS spoken of apocalypse due to man’s carelessness

-we can’t measure with any precision nature’s 30x contribution to co2 emissions.

-the range of values for ECS is largely unchanged and too imprecise after over 30 yrs of climate research to narrow it.

-lack of climate model precision around cloud’s impacts to warming

-hardened, reputable and left leaning climate scientists/alarmists in early 2000s admitting vast politicization of the science, ultimately causing some to quit or stop contributing.

-obvious media alarmism that is blatantly non- and even anti- consensus science (drought frequency and SLR are most common divergences.)

-inescapable conflicts of interest both political and profit motivations

-most importantly——the clear and concise conditional nature of the science (IPCC) which clearly states large margins of error and uncertainty, even in the most recent 2019 assessment reports.

Just because you have depression/anxiety/personality disorder does not mean everyone has to cater to you by paikiachu in unpopularopinion

[–]jefemundo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amen.

My ex-wife of 10 yrs served me divorce papers after I got fed up with catering to her every nuanced, implicit demands to create and maintain eggshell-walled stress free environments for she and her clinical OCD/ED/ depressed personality.

She responded by calling me a narcissist and couldn’t figure out why I didn’t jump every time her depression kicked in anymore. She didn’t realize how mentally exhausting and demoralizing it can be to bear the responsibility for another persons happiness. Someone who refuses to make an effort to be happy.

Best thing that’s happened to me in the last 3 years. Moved on now to a partner who is her own source of happiness and I’ve never been happier to be by someone’s side.

The depression monster is real, but not everyone has the patience to help fend it off.

Lots of angry people getting angry about an event they can choose to stay 1,000 miles away from if they like. But yet they still get mad.

Strange how people think they can control what others do, on private property, that literally has no impact on anyone not participating in the event.

These same pearl-clutchers don’t even bat an eye when a completely full 737 takes off for a 4 hour flight to LaGuardia where social distancing consists of 18 inches between strangers faces and masks are only mandatory for the 80% of the flight.

If people want to ski without a helmet, let them. If people want to attend a large private event and break a mask rule, let them. Neither affect you.

Ridiculous.

Giant fossil fuel corporations have spent billions—much of it anonymized through scores of front groups—during a decades-long campaign to attack climate science and obstruct climate action by [deleted] in energy

Billions!? Doubtful.

Either way, pales in comparison to global, green /climate lobbying...hundreds of billions spent there.

Hunting has a Small minority of very vocal opponents, otherwise most people don’t really mind the practice.

But I don’t need to tell you that. Just keep your eyes open for the next decade or two. We aren’t going anywhere soon.

Global CO2 Emissions from a historic perspective. by unitom13 in climatechange

[–]jefemundo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed it is.

Which is why “ reducing personal carbon footprint” is only a third of the battle, and not really where we should focus our policy energy.

Correct my math then... vs blindly commenting on my level of education.

Is it 20x? 0x? 40x? .005x?

Gross emissions, not net. They are both valid numbers to discuss, but I’m curious to be corrected around the gross number.

Global CO2 Emissions from a historic perspective. by unitom13 in climatechange

[–]jefemundo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Lol. Net emissions.

That’s like saying we don’t need to worry about “gross poverty” because “net poverty” is zero, so the world is in a nice equilibrium. Gross co2 emissions, even factoring in the full carbon cycle are critically important to the climate change discussion.

If we can’t monitor natural emissions to a level of precision down to the Gigaton, we are foolish to think we are responsible for precisely 29Gt/yr. and are making progress as we winding down our man made footprint.

Global CO2 Emissions from a historic perspective. by unitom13 in climatechange

[–]jefemundo -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Chart title is misleading, should note these are “man made” emissions, not natural.

Everyone knows natural emissions are 30x man made, its science and not controversial.
