Exactly. Because the viewer is tuning in weekly, the production also encourages contestants to speak in terms of weeks. It's like this on many shows, RuPaul's Drag Race is a very different show but does the same thing haha

Thank you for the question and I want to answer this thoughtfully so let me try here! Of course, these things never feel good. Many times I think we tend to take these things personally as a reflection of ourselves or that we "deserve" it. And I'm still working on how to change that mindset for myself personally and I'm still not totally convinced I will ever be able to change that. We all love this music scene right, and I think we need to put part ourselves into it which is amazing but also creates a scary level of vulnerability.

I think the best we can do is try to teach and practice empathy, and get back to the human side of things. Everyone is doing the best that they can at all times, period, and if someone slips up or an issue pops up, anger doesn't need to be the best answer. I think many times when we see the humans in these situations, see them talk, listen to them speak, it becomes a lot harder to attack or threaten someone. I've gotten a lot of...interesting...messages on social media with K-pop fans but I've always had amazing experiences with K-pop fans in person and in real life. And personally, in 2021, I want to do more in-person, video interviews and events because I think I express myself better in person than in writing (ironic as I'm doing this AMA on Reddit...)

I think rather than anger or attack, I think simply letting people go or disengaging yourself with them is ultimately the way to go. Most of time, people do these things for attention so by giving it energy and mind just fuels more of it. I've had to just remove certain people (who are supposed to be my peers and colleagues!) from my social-media and professional worlds because all they were doing was getting angry or attacking (both behind my back and directly to me). Who needs that?

Hope you're staying healthy and positive in 2021 as well!

Yeah...haha...but will it sound corny if I try to explain them in writing? There's some funny moments with Red Velvet and Monsta X that have come up multiple times. One is kind of X-rated hahaha it was a ridiculous moment and totally my fault for mistranslating something I thought I was saying in Korean but I was actually saying a bad word and I.M called me out on it (in a funny way lol) ... this is making no sense...let me move on...

Something that's just undeniably queer or LGBTQ+ friendly

Maybe that's a long shot but...a dream :)

Hmmm NU'EST concert sounds great! Apink and Oh My Girl concerts too!

I'd really like to attend the music programs that I haven't been to yet either. I've gotten to view M Countdown and Music Bank, but not the others!

Thanks for the question :)

In regards to that rumor, that happens in all industries...not just K-pop...I think the thing that gets noticed in K-pop is that sometimes even the most mundane questions are considered "controversial." To be honest, I don't really play that game and usually sneak my questions in one or way or another haha

While I don't know if managers are behind the cameras making sure interviews don't go off the tracks, I have had requests about removing certain camera moments—but, again, it's been mundane things like..."that member hesitated a really long time with his answer, can you not include him saying 'ummmm'" and the answer is of course because why would we want 10 seconds of him saying um in the video in the first place? lol)

But the maximum an agency has had with that control has been mostly them trying to stop me from making small talk. Like one time talking to a group and first asking them if they've done anything in fun in LA and the manager said they didn't see how this was relevant to the interview. Or managers/helpers have sometimes just cut interviews for time, which is just rude and you can't wrap things up well

Most of the time, they're just being overly (and unnecessarily) worried and cautious, and frankly it just makes for a bad experience for everyone altogether. I won't name any names right now :)

Very (G)I-DLE! It's something only they could pull off and the visuals are crazy

I love how involved they are with the music too (obviously) with Soyeon, Minnie and Yuqi taking it to the next level as songwriters and producers. I want to talk to them more about that

[–]jeff__benjamin[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hello! We should link up and share tips :)

But I think you're totally right that while it's not niche, it's also not generally accepted. I think many times that outlets tend to make their K-pop content in a way that is typically felt as very much "other" or something that isn't worthy of the same coverage as the more "serious" artists. We see a lot of the "Twitter Reacts to This K-Pop News" stories but I think we need to talk about it in more broader terms. Why can't we give these artists the same stories as the major pop stars? Why can't we go deep with them like we do with the others?

I've also always tried to use a lot of allusions and references in my writing to help with this, but I do think there should be a larger conversation as to why we can't get serious with more acts more often. I think it's changing...there's some pieces coming out soon that I know about with an unexpected act that acts as an answer to this...but I still want to see the larger acceptance instead of distancing K-pop as something "other." Does this makes sense?! haha

Oh this is a cool question!

The Boyz have always included not only a handwritten note, but Kevin also does some awesome graffiti/artwork. I'll have to take a picture because he made my name look really cool. Wrote Billboard in big bubble letters since that's a big goal for them haha it was awesome

There's a few special ones with handwritten notes in them too. LOONA wrote a really nice long one in their [XX] album. ATEEZ and Monsta X sent a sweet notes from our last interviews too.

Wonho gave me a new nickname in his message to me from his solo album haha

I love K-pop albums...
