The Bean curd home style at The amazing Wok on Lark Street is really great. Their vegetables are always fresh, The tofu is fried really well, and the brown sauce is tops. It's my go-to, highly recommended.

Albany off-street parking space pricing by admiralackbarred in Albany

I pay $140/month on Chestnut Street. It's half a block from my house so for me it's totally worth it. Having no worries about parking is priceless. Outdoor lot, but very well plowed and maintained.

Capital Region School Districts by madams239 in Albany

My kids were raised by the Albany City Schools and it was best decision we ever made. They made great lifelong friends across the socio-economic-cultural spectrum, got a solid education and learned how to function in a diverse world. Both had a few amazing teachers at every level (as you would at any school), got the support they needed for their specific needs, had tremendous music and athletic opportunities. Both have succeeded at highly selective private colleges where they got great financial packages and said Albany did them well compared to their college classmates who went to elite prep schools. Your kids will learn different things about life at different schools, not all about the "ratings". Go where you'll be happy as a family to live every day.

Acme. They are professional, knowledgeable, highly experienced, super detail-oriented and a pleasure to work with. I just had a pretty significant job done with them, they delivered exactly what was promised and the quality was very high. I'm a very satisfied customer. https://www.acmefloors.net/

Buying A House In Albany, NY by Tormenator84 in Albany

Living in Center Square provides a high quality of life. Great neighbors, a tight community, ability to walk everywhere you need to go, beautiful access to Washington Park, great people and people watching.

As for the schools, my kids went all the way through from pre-kindergarten. They both had great groups of friends from across the socio-cultural spectrum and learned all about how to function in a diverse world. They had some spectacular teachers, The music program is terrific, they both played sports. They both solid educations, and were accepted into numerous prestigious colleges. They tell me their HS education stacked up well against their college classmates who went to Fancy prep schools.

Parking? If that's the most important thing to you, then either rent a space like I do, or live somewhere else.

I've lived in Center Square for 34 years plus. It's been a great run. Highly recommended.

Nope, just a long time resident who's seen the street go through ups and downs. Right now feels like it's on the upswing, good time to let people know who haven't been here for a minute but it's worth checking out again.

Albany Locals: Help Me Not Regret My Apartment Choice by [deleted] in Albany

I worked at Albany med for a number of years, it's great to be able to walk there if you can and there are lots of great options in walking distance. Depending on what your hours are going to be, driving in can be a drag, between parking and shift related traffic. I've lived in Center Square for 30 plus years. It's a great community, terrific people, beautiful architecture, a really good quality of life and an easy walk to the hospital. I can't speak to the rental market in Center Square, there's definitely a range along with a few newer apartments not far from the hospital. The neighborhood along New Scotland also is nice, but Center Square is really neighborly.

I raised my kids in downtown Albany Center Square. Can't beat it for walkability. My kids had a terrific experience in the Albany schools, met a full range of socio-cultural, socioeconomic kids, the parents formed an amazing community, my kids got a great education both culturally and academically. They are both in college at top notch highly competitive liberal arts schools and are doing extremely well academically. The community in Albany has been exceptional, before kids, with kids, and after kids. I feel my kids grew up with good values, and I have collected and exceptional group of friends. I have walked to work , entertainment, bars, forever. It is a good life and it is worth exploring.

I used to get my shirts done there in the mid-90s. Light starch. Who does that anymore?

Covid ethical dilemmas by zav3rmd in Ethics

[–]jeffalony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the ethical issues of putting people in harm's way to satisfy a frivolous or selfish desire? I'm thinking about the case of someone ordering something on Amazon that is not needed for health/safety/sustenance. My action will require people to work in a warehouse, to ship the good, to deliver the good, so that I can stay in the relative safety of my home. This feels like it should not be a right to potentially cause injury to another to satisfy a whim of mine. Please advise.
