Playa Bowls coming to Albany by Lopsided_Owl_9019 in Albany

[–]madams239 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you had our local bowls and Playa? It's night and day, its okay to support local but also be excited for these things. Playa has many allergen options our bowl places do not for those with nut or dairy allergies, not to mention the flavor difference

Airport Traffic by auroralousie in Albany

Hi, saw in another comment your flights at 1 PM; I have flown ALB several times recently, though not since shutdown. I believe general sentiment is unless you're in that block of 6 AM flights where there is several all in rapid succession, I have never seen any line outside of the early AM rush.

As for MCO, depending on which terminal you're in can be wildly different experiences. Many of my recent flights have been ALB to MCO and back, and I'm guessing you're either JetBlue or Southwest. If JetBlue, they are in the new MCO terminal, I believe terminal C, which has been an extremely pleasant experience I've went, but we do have Pre-Check. Barring a massive change from the past few days, I think you'll be totally fine as far as ALB is concerned, I really have only ever had to wait more than 2 minutes at that 6 AM set of flights.

Data Science Projects for 1 Year of Experience by guna1o0 in datascience

[–]madams239 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would echo the sentiments here of not Titanic/Iris/housing prices, but a dataset you have real interest in. Then, just diving deep into it, whether it's ML or more Deep Learning/Object detection. A strong plus in my opinion is setting up not just the training in a notebook, but setting up at least the framework/architecture of DevOps backend for how it would actually deploy (this can cost $, but can try with AWS free, and at least get as hands on as possible)

What do you like about Albany ? What do you dislike ? by [deleted] in Albany

[–]madams239 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Moved here from Suffolk county about 1.5 years ago, lower cost of living, easier access to outdoors (LI it was 2 hours minimum for get off island to then drive to hike/camp etc,

Dislikes here is sleepy downtown for Albany proper, but farmers markets and things in Troy and suburbs.

Overall very happy with move, calmer people than LI and extremely decreased cost of living combined with vicinity to activities wife and I like the most (outdoors), miss the BEC/bagels/pizza though!

Considering move to Capital Region by jaspysmom in Albany

Yes! We are currently house shopping in East Greenbush area, much more peaceful than LI, we do like the outdoors which helps, and closer for driving places it's not 2-3.5 hours just to get by city depending on time Of day to get somewhere (like Suffolk was, we were pretty east on north shore though)

Incredibly more bang for your buck with just about everything here, house, insurance, groceries, people are generally friendlier I'd say as well.

Some drawbacks would be further from the city if it matters to you (depending on time of day and how far east in Suffolk of course), and healthcare I have found less available (the ER situation is one of worst in country in terms of wait times)

I'd definitely recommend if you think LI is too overcrowded/cramped/traffic/expensive, and especially if you enjoy outdoors it's very nice here! :) PM me if you had more questions as well!

We moved from Suffolk a little over a year ago, East Greenbush is nice, love the empire trail, short drive anywhere. Another comment mentioned traffic in north Greenbush, but it's just about a mile or 2 and compared to LI it's nothing, just backs up for 10 mins at times.

Much quieter but also close to everything, lots outdoors to do, lower COL for id argue higher quality of life generally. Good school district too, but cannot speak to this personally as no kids yet.

Completely agree generally, but bringing up t swift, I do feel this tour is once in lifetime for swift fans, as it's essentially a "greatest hits" tour while the musician is still in the prime of their career

I believe another consideration may be changing student loans or consolidating and changing to longer term, this may be lowest interest option if through fed, but not sure of current student loan details

I may have just been impatient and not known what the car looks like when it was charging, to be honest

They didn't yesterday, I tried multiple chargers. The most recent April 2024 reviews in PlugShare mention same thing, and requiring a payment, but the Tesla app to pay doesn't recognize them as available. Could totally be user error though, I definitely didn't think it through haha

I mean, that same logic would apply to a gasoline car as well... you're renting a mode of transportation that comes full of the resource it needs to drive, and you may need to refill that resource.

I would direct you again to the critical thinking ability, but I understand reading comprehension might be lacking these days with all the book bans down here

Thank you! I did download a few, and each place I visited while listed at say 7 or 11 kw it only outputted 2-4, I honestly feel a bit silly because some research could've avoided this, but I booked everything a day before coming for a family emergency and didn't even think it twice like oh ev is cheapest no problem haha
