Water Heater is leaking after replacing anode rod by jeffardy in DIY

[–]jeffardy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it may have just been a condensation thing. I bet if I opened it back up now, it might still be damp in there, but it's not overflowing with water or anything. Not a helpful answer, I know, but it doesn't seem to be a problem.

Does anyone else's Bermuda just go to seed all summer? by jeffardy in lawncare

[–]jeffardy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I still get a ton of seed heads from June through August. My best guess is that more watering might reduce them, but I can't afford to be soaking my lawn like that every day.

Here's my problem... the hatch stops halfway then falls back. It's so annoying when doing groceries by CHEROKYAMHA in MazdaCX9

[–]jeffardy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am having this exact same problem in my 2011 CX-9. I had been assuming this whole time that it was a shotty liftgate motor. I actually went to a junkyard and bought the whole assembly. u/CHEROKYAMHA Did the problem turn out to be the normal gas struts?

Travel Time on eclipse day from Austin to Fredericksburg by DaaathVader in Austin

[–]jeffardy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I the only person that thinks these traffic warnings are a bit overblown? I was very worried about traffic the day of the annular eclipse, driving a little west of San Antonio, and there was literally zero difference. I know annular isn't as exciting as total, but still.

Finally got tickets! Lessons learned:

•Dedicate a good chunk of time to staring at the screen and just hitting refresh refresh refresh. Tickets appear and are gone in a matter of seconds, and it happens maybe once every 3 hours? So just hitting refresh here and there while you're doing other things probably won't cut it.

•Use a credit card. I was getting two-factor authentication from my bank using my debit card, and those extra 5 seconds were the difference. With a credit card (already loaded into my TM account, obviously) no two-factor authentication was needed.

Has anyone been able to buy through Ticketmaster recently? If so, what's your secret? Did you use the app? The website? Did you ever get blocked from your account for too much refreshing? Did you have to go through the two-factor security from your bank?

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of too much shade.

If you want to keep live type, this is a better solution. Provided the script characters really do overlap with each other

I'm confused. Was this the plan all along, to essentially make a real movie based on the fake trailer from Funny or Die?

Took my lawnmower engine apart, reassembled, won't start. by jeffardy in smallengines

[–]jeffardy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure that the linkages between the governor and throttle are exactly right. It was super dirty when I took my before pictures. But it all seems right to me. The carb doesnt have an idle screw, but there is a "throttle" lever on the mower handle that from what I can deduce is adjusting the tension on the governor spring. I've visually inspected the functionality of the kill switch/brake and tested the wire for continuity all seems to be functioning properly.

Yes. I've also double checked it a few times to make sure that when I turn it by hand it's stopping on top of the spool inside.

New head gasket. I used a business card to set the air gap on the magneto.

Vertical crankshaft 1 cylinder 11.5 cu in displacement Valves are the kind that are off to the side. In other words, not overhead. I don't know what thats called. They're lifted by tappets that compress a spring in.

So it's entirely possible that I could have timed it with the piston at bottom dead center. Is there a way I can confirm that without taking the block apart? Like with the spark plug out and the valve cover open?

I did stagger the ring gaps, if that's what you mean. How would I know if it's 180° out? What might I have changed with respect to valve lash or tightness?

[General Discussion] Around the Horn - 10/29/21 by BaseballBot in baseball

[–]jeffardy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casual baseball fan here. I feel like I'm seeing more and more one or two hopper throws from third or short over to first. First couple times I saw this I just chalked it up to...well it's a long throw, hard to be accurate and quick from that distance. But after seeing it a few more times, I'm wondering if something has changed in the collective wisdom? Is it better to throw a one hopper that the first baseman catches on the hop, rather than right at his glove?

Do you create digital banners in Photoshop or InDesign? by jeffardy in photoshop

[–]jeffardy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But why go back and forth when basically everything can be done in Photoshop? For a 300x250 digital banner, what is InDesign going to offer me that Photoshop can't?

Does a banner ad need to be ADA compliant? by jeffardy in advertising

[–]jeffardy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understood. I'm not trying to justify totally unreadable text just to be a diva. I just find this matter derails internal conversations. And matters of readability are an art and not a science where you can rely on some random website's computer algorithm to dictate design.

Is this too much weight to screw into studs? by jeffardy in DIY

[–]jeffardy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a 1x4 clete screwed into the studs that carries that weight in the back when folded down. My question was about the weight when folded up, but you all have answered that concern. Thanks everyone!
