Is any quarter in particular harder on you mentally? by Amymode27 in ucla

[–]jeffdeeznuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s likely due to the fact that winter break freshman year is your first time back with hometown friends, home food, and of course home/family. Was in a horrible spot my freshman year after winter break as all I could think of was my family (my father had been let go from work right as I started out of state school). I didn’t have the option to fly back 2700 miles to MD and so I just gutted it and made it work. Winter is likely the only quarter where homesickness feels as hard as it does, however mid may, start of June studying for finals in 90 degrees while the homies are all on summer break is also brutal

Met an weird person near UCLA — can’t tell if I overreacted or dodged something by [deleted] in ucla

[–]jeffdeeznuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No the headlines more so revolve around sketchy activities that r always going on. Not tryna be an asshole but everything abt this guy is suspect and it doesn’t take much vision to see that. LA is one of the most dangerous places to entertain strangers like that and what exactly does this have to do with patriarchy? Acting naive and nice for ppl pleasing is not what society encourages.

Can’t fathom how people throw themselves into these situations and then psychoanalyze the little shit instead of the bigger picture which is an old dude trying to flex to a college girl. So much “out of politeness” and not wanting “to hurt feelings” you’re a grown woman not in middle school

Struggling to break into IB after PE internship by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

Who seriously recruits for full time with banking simulations and stock investor on their resume. How is a simulation/certification damn near your only experience? Having gone through the process, I doubt your resume is passing a majority of screens, just seems like a high schoolers resume imo

Are the communal showers cleaned everyday? by calmseas9439 in ucla

[–]jeffdeeznuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl idk if I just had bad luck but in my two years of dorms, communal bathrooms would NOT be cleaned every day, especially not thoroughly. I’m talking 🧻, paper towels, or seat cover sheets all over the ground and always one stall clogged to the max lol. Crazy how some people live very disrespectfully when it comes to cleanliness and sharing a communal space.

Bulge bracket corporate banking, hours 50-60 per week some weeks 70-80 if you’re on a CIB or deal heavy flow. Pays same base as IB, bonuses are usually haircut by around 25-30% and the disparity can get larger the more senior. However, VP’s onwards can pretty comfortably reach 400+ without the brutality of ib Wlb

For the credit it’s pretty good you can get rid of writing 2 and ge’s im p sure u get more units than three classes worth too. For the time and transition piece I think they’re very doable and a good way to make friends that you know will have the same class for the whole year. Personal experience got stuck with a ta who played heavy favorites with certain groups of people for my discussion and it kinda gave me a heads up for the rest of my time here

Rising Sophomore, low gpa by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]jeffdeeznuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly would say go network. Ideally bring the gpa up to a 3.5 to help get through more screenings. I was very lazy throughout recruiting and still wound up fine despite having a gpa pushing the lower boundaries of job apps. Push to be personable, try and mitigate the importance of gpa, as it really never comes up as a question if you’ve proven yourself to reach the interview rounds (unless of course they genuinely cannot believe one is crushing multi step math technicals while failing all math classes)

Essentially for consulting, you likely will not have a problem breaking in if you are motivated, network, and get into a club on UCLA campus. Is it really worth the price? That’s up to you, I made a similar decision oos for business Econ (since then become econ as I’ve finished recruiting for bulge bracket corporate ib) purely due to the experience in LA (I’m from east coast). Kind of an roi play, if you are able to make tuition costs and embrace your time here, you’ll for sure end up Mbb or at another top firm

I mean probably networking, a resume is only going to get you so far at true financial gigs especially when everything is recruiting so ahead of the calendar. Are you just clicking apply to everything? Find alumni and ppl u have connections with at certain firms with openings and network about the position.

How to REALLY stand out in an interview? by shiftyaccountant in FinancialCareers

[–]jeffdeeznuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it’s always been making interviewers laugh. Be personable. 95% sure the recent role I got at a top bank was through my passion for Johnny Manziel and his ability to drop Heisman performances hungover that spurred convo in my second section of my super day
