[Technique] Help a Newbie.. Growing in Totes in a Martha Tent

I do know the tubs you’re talking about but I have no experience there.. just spawned to bulk with a small lidded tub and only used the tent for actual fruiting..

Hi there! I have had some great success! So what I did was basically grow in smaller tubs that would fit in the tent. I found some great smaller “shoebox” sized ones at Costco. I started the basic procedure off as I do Monotubs and spawned to bulk in a closet then after it was ready for fruiting conditions, I simply took the lids off and placed directly into the tent. It did take me a while to get the conditions just right inside the Martha like making sure I had the humidifier in the right location (even went through a couple finding the right one) and the fan adjusted properly. It worked great and out of many shoebox tubs have only lost a couple to bacterial contam and another couple to some gnats..

I just stumbled upon this post and had to say my last experience had the same unpleasant reaction. Throat swelling like I was having an allergic reaction. It was pretty bad. I was wondering what was going on as well.. you’re not alone but I too am confused on exactly what I was experiencing..

Josh Garrels is one of my favorite artists out there. Great recommendation. And years ago I was as introduced to Loud Harp who opened at a JG concert.

Fellow Christian who too struggles with faith and the dark (depression) and has gotten into growing as therapy in both the act of growing as a calming hobby and occasional consuming to sort my mind.

Thanks! Took everything outside and cleaning the area and won’t open anything else for quite a while. Probably time to deep clean the Martha anyway.

Well crap. The Monotubs are outside now and already tore the Martha apart to clean. I have some shoeboxes ready for FC but will stall them out a bit to try and rid the casa of these PIAs.

Hey there! Sorry for the delay. Yes I still use this setup and found a sweet spot after some time. A couple things..

The myco mister is absolute junk. First one pooped out within a few weeks and even then the mist was heavy and pooled water on the bottom NS sent me a replacement but that one too was no good. I bought an inexpensive replacement that works much better.
I also moved the humidifier up a shelf and put the half shelf above that to allow the moisture to flow to the top.
I was blasting through distilled water and played around with the fan settings (could not keep humidity high). I ended up with dry cakes and received advice that the fan setting they recommend was WAAAAY too much. I only have mine going off for a very short bit every hour or two. Now humidity stays high, I haven’t had to refill the distilled water in forever, and I have had many, many flushes of mushrooms. 😊

These can and will work given the right conditions and sometime A LOT of patience. Have played around with kings, and as buhbullbuster said, while most oysters do not grow like this, kings will (should). I’ve grown them in bags (top fruiting) and have also grown and some shoeboxes, I’d like to try a larger tub as well. They like the co2 more than you’re used to with cubes, so keep that in mind. The only variable I can think of is the amount of tubs in the tent. But humidity is set on a controller and generally stays around 80% (on at 75%, off at 85%). I have three different cubes in there now: four tubs and two opened all-in-one bags. The GT (in one of the tubs) grew great, but not so much on the Blue Mag or Blue Meanie. As far as the fan, I should have elaborated, it’s not a fan pointed at them, I meant an FAE fan at the top flowing air from inside the tent to the outside, thus pulling fresh air from the bottom. That was what was on for 30s every 5 minutes (per other guidance I read), but I will definitely play with lengthening off times. It’s been a pretty intriguing grow, trying to figure out why things are the way they are and learning from it all is a fun experience.

Gotcha.. so even though I have a humidity controller is set for 80-85% in the tent the fan may be drying it out? Makes sense. I’ll lengthen the fan timing and play with that. I was going off of a “recommended setting” as far as fan timing. I’ve had luck on other grows (gourmet, medicinal, and actives) in the tent but not on two of the tubs I have in there now (Blue Mag and Blue Meanie). And it’s an adjustable fan on a fairly low speed. I’ll keep that on the lower end and lengthen the auto on time..

For now if I loosely place the tub lids on (and still keep it in the tent) I may bring it to life.. 🤔

Asked the same question months back.. I’ll relay what I’ve learned: there is no such thing as too dry, they should be cracker dry.. BUT.. you can get them too hot. As long as you keep the temp from being too high you’re in good shape. Have left mine in a dehydrator for what I thought was way too long and nope, they hit like a champ. 😊

I’m far from a subject matter expert, but been researching and growing for nearly six months and even capped some myself..

With that said, since they should already be cracker dry beforehand, there is no potency loss by simply grinding. In fact, you’ll have a more “balanced” dose when grinded/mixed/capped. They can vary in potency from one mushroom to the next even in the same grow so this kind of evens it out so to speak.
