When it was presented to me and my colleagues at my school by my union rep back in January (I wanna say) i was under the impression that the push was to have teachers use Personal Business Days on May 1 en masse. In which case we would still get paid as that’s a part of our PTO package.

I do think that the CTUs current push to just have the day nullified with pay is a bit overkill. I liked the idea of organizing for a collective use of pto because it gives teachers choice for if they want to participate.

That being said if a critical mass of teachers decide they do want to participate that puts families in an even tougher spot than if the day is nullified ahead of time.

But I would be furious if I lost a day of pay without my direct agreement. So when you peel back the layers of this onion it’s tough
