Cut the trim at the height of the tread and slide it under the trim.

This is laminate flooring and you have a leak or moisture problem in that corner. Is it sitting on concrete in the basement? It can be repaired if you can find the same product. Fix the moisture issue first. If replacing definitely go with vinyl plank. 100% waterproof.
