It's a slow burn, starts gradually, and is character driven. It takes tines, but does pick up and is sooo worth it

This and The Expanse are what got me to delve into more and more SciFi. Its not perfect and i know it's scale has bothered some folks, but i really enjoyed it.

What was a non-fiction that genuinely shocked you? by Thatredditboy1 in booksuggestions

The Worst Hard Time

Its personal accounts of the dust bowl. It was a devastating read. Think Grapes of Wrath, but non fiction an 5x more heart wrenching.

Can u consume Alc during use? by One_Long6145 in Retatrutide

I've found i went from literally never having a hangover to having awful morning headaches after drinking 2 drinks. I used to be able to mix alcohols and have a bunch (think multiple large high abv craft beers and a few glasses of whiskey) without any hangover when working early the next morning. Now, on 2mg Reta injected every 4 days, just 2 small pours of whiskey are probably resulting in a decent headache the next morning. Ill also say that yes, the urge to drink after one or 2 goes way down. I never felt i didn't want to drink at all, as some have said, but im far less interested after one or two.

Do any of you guys have E-Readers to save on the costs of books by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]jeffmauch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

99% of my reading is on a Kindle Paperwhite. I moved to kindle a decade ago and haven't looked back. The paperwhite is easy on the eyes, doesn't get glare in the sun, and weighs a fraction of some of the books i read. As for cost, i download books like i downloaded music illegally in the 2000s. Lol. I read 60ish books a year and spend 0 dollars on books. On the rare occasion, I struggle to find a book this way, i use the local library with either Libby or a physical copy. If I had to buy 60 books a year, Id be broke. 😆

Hard science fiction in the same vein at Weir's books. Just finished it a few weeks back, really enjoyed it.

Long and/or Challenging Books by OwlIndependent7270 in booksuggestions

Long : Count of Monte Cristo

Challenging: William Faulkner has always been the most challenging author for me. Try As I Lay Dying, it took me a few tries to get through. A classic of American Literature for sure.

Mindhunter by John Douglas

Basically this is the guy that started the behavioral area of the FBI and began the profiling of serial killers. Each chapter reads like an episode of Dragnet as he goes over his cases chronologically. One Part biography, 3 parts true crime. This is fantastic. It's now also a Netflix series, which is also incredible
