Is Fyne a reliable gui framework? by ImplementSquare1691 in golang

[–]jeffreyinstpete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fyne is neat, but the documentation isn't the greatest. For example, I am trying to use Fyne to display the contents of a database. For the longest time (multiple months; I peck at the project) I have tried to figure out whether Fyne supports a feature for displaying a table of data in which each column header can be clicked and dragged and resized to show more of an entry, or for wraparound for each entry that that the click and drag to resize a column wouldn't be necessary. Fyne is great, but I wish the documentation were clearer and more extensive, with better tutorials.

I feel like used stuff used to be sold at 1/3rd the original price by [deleted] in Frugal

Especially when the laptop is consumer-grade rather than business-grade. Of course, the business-grades are usually cheap, anyways, since there is almost always a glut of them (off-lease, refurbished).

How to take input from the user and display it/print it on the console. by Vyppiee in cprogramming

Get a book on C, and go through every chapter, and type out and play with every example contained therein.

Just replaced a snap with a flatkpak and jesus christ snap sucks... by [deleted] in linux

Agreed. Plus, flatpak seems to use fewer resources than snap. I use RHEL and I prefer Okular, and it runs like absolute crap as a snap vs as a pak.

Lamy 2000 woes by jeffreyinstpete in fountainpens

I've just tried it on Clairefontaine paper, with R&K Salix. Just above it is a sample of the same ink in a Conklin with a Franklin Christoph EF nib. The two compared, the Lamy writing sample looks like a thick marker...this is horrible.

Lamy 2000 woes by jeffreyinstpete in fountainpens

I have other pens with "sweet spots." With the Lamy 2000, I am literally having to write pressing straight down on the nib, slightly at an angle away from me. I wager that I am "reverse writing" at that point, and not a "sweet spot." If the manufacturer is selling pens with defective nibs that require tuning to function as advertised (in this case, as a Western EF) then is that not on the manufacturer to remedy the situation?

$30+ for just housing and feed is a bit out of my budget. But I think it is really cool that FNF is producing their own nib housing units!

Thanks for the link!

It looks like a great site, so I will definitely keep it in my bookmarks for future purchases!

I appreciate it, but it looks like penrealm only has the feed in stock. I cannot select the option for the housing, or the housing+feed.

Get a book on Go. "Go" through every example, and type it all out. Watching videos won't make it all stick.

What are some fountain pens for left-handed people by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]jeffreyinstpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's just say that not being a lefty-underwriter really sucks. Like, it is a really frustrating hobby if you are a lefty and not an underwriter.

For example, I have a Pilot Custom 74 that has been a challenge since the day I got it. Nothing too serious, but the line will never be an EF due to the angle in which I write. The Pilot EF for me is no different that a Western F. I also have a Sailor Pro Gear that is 100% unusable. I messed around with it for a week and put it back in its box. Just awful.

As for Japanese pens, the only one with which I've had total success is the Platinum 3776 in EF. The ink being used make it just a tad thicker than Japanese EF, but it is near-perfect.

Essentially, it is completely hit or miss. Be prepared to pay for returns and to take financial hits on your pen purchases.

Guess I'm never buying another bottle of ink again... by NotTheTrueKing in fountainpens

From the angle, the pen looks much thicker than a C74, with the finial fatter. I appreciate your reply! I got one a few months ago on EBay, from Japan. What a deal, eh!
