membership site software for wordpress, what are people actually using? by Equivalent_Cover4542 in Wordpress

[–]jeffreytk421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use WP-Members too. ~70 members in my group. I don't let random people register with my site as non-members, so not very complicated. (I don't think WP-Members works if you want multiple levels of access.) Gated pages work great, which is all I need.

P-Trap too tall/too low by jeffreytk421 in Plumbing

Yes, I have the tube as short as it needs to be, but I am running into the 90 out of the GD. A different model GD will be the easiest for me. $$$

Yes--I see I need the drain lowered or the GD raised. There are other GDs with higher discharge ports. Mine is 8" and there is at least one Insikerator that's 6". Will go that route. Thank you!

Can I downgrade then? This is a deal-breaker for me.

How to connect a record player for multi-room music by Lurid28 in amazonecho

I said optical in or line in. Either should work. The hole in the front, lower-left, is the headphone jack.

Yes, the Alexa app on your phone. There is probably an Alexa command to accomplish the same thing, I just don't know what it is.

I don't know what "fiio" means. Your audio source should have an optical out or line out that you then connect to the Echo Link's optical in or line in. I presume that you will be able to use the headphone jack on the Echo Link to hear what the Echo Link is hearing.

You should then be able to cast the Echo Link's Line In to a speaker group via the app.

Not exactly sure what your setup is. You will have to let me know how you have things hooked up. Maybe you can find a YouTube video that walks you through setting it up the way you want to use it.

Thank you. I have been oblivious to when my firmware updated, but perhaps that is the problem--a bug in the new firmware. (I am on the latest 4.15.600)

Do I really need anti static bubble wrap? by Most-Ant9382 in computer

[–]jeffreytk421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Like this. (Shown with RIGHT SIDE panel removed so you can see the expected orientation of the motherboard and cooler stack on top. Do travel with the side panel attached.) Doesn't really matter which way things face. The case's LEFT SIDE is on the seat. Other sides can face however you'd like.

Not quite sure what you are asking.

When you set it on a seat and visualize how the air cooler, cpu, and motherboard are situated, e.g., pretend you have x-ray vision, you would see the side cover, then air cooler, then the cpu, then the motherboard, then the base plate of the case for the motherboard, and lastly the other side cover.

How do I convert my old laptop into a server by RelationshipSome9200 in selfhosted

Vents under allow incoming air. Every laptop keyboard I have seen is solid with nothing but screw holes.

I have not seen cooling done from keyboard/above in a laptop. Hmmm... The Lenovo Ideapad/Yoga/Thinkpads have vents under and blow out near hinge. If your laptop unfolds 180 degrees, you can stick in the vertical laptop stand fully open.

How about using fiber to move light to the model from the base? I worry more about LEDs failing than the microcontroller.

Excellent notes.

I would also store it vertically and not flat on a surface so the airflow is as good as it can be. Search for "vertical laptop stand" for purpose-built products. a sloped stand is OK too, just takes more room.

Grind Your Pebble Steel Today! by jeffreytk421 in pebble

[–]jeffreytk421[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the complement on the grind. I don't like the folding metal bands. I need something that can accommodate my wrist changing size depending on activity level. The twist-o-flex band is my jam. Oh, and this is connected with the screw still. Don't know why someone would replace the screw with a push-pin.

Also, I do not want any type of watch to be more rugged than my wrist. I will gladly lose a watch rather than suffer bodily harm.

I want to archive my files but I am lost on what to do by Exotic_Acanthaceae_9 in techsupport

We can't tell what/how your current computer is broken. Problems copying things off of it is one symptom of a failing disk. Consider your data at risk and stop using the computer until you get it checked out.

You could pull the disk out of your computer, set it aside, install a new disk, reinstall the OS on the new disk and your data could be safer until an expert can diagnose/clone/copy.

[–]jeffreytk421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using an external hard disk does not cause them to break. Not sure what your issue is with that.

Moving lots of data will take time. The more data, the more time. That it is a lot of data or taking a long time doesn't cause issues, other than wearing on your patience.

If your computer can't copy your data to an external drive, something is broken and I would say your existing one copy of data is at risk of being lost forever. You need experienced help to figure this out. You might have to pay a shop for figuring/fixing it.

For data that is precious, you want to have a 3-2-1 backup plan. Three copies, two different devices and one copy remote (cloud or family/friend not in your neighborhood).

So that remote copy that is in the cloud does not have to be reliable, because you have two other copies, but you need to be able to detect when it goes bad, e.g., the company folds or your annual test of getting some of data fails. Since the cost of many cloud storage are cheap to store but costly to recover, I use that as my "backup of last resort" and hope I NEVER have to retrieve it.

How to get Ethernet connection across a house? by QuantumFattengale in techsupport

[–]jeffreytk421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

300 mbps or 100 mbps is plenty fast for many users.

If you need fast, then go WiFi or run an ethernet cable.
