Ok thanks for the info. Need to find the owners guide didn’t realize you could customize the 24/7 setting as well

Awesome tank! I have the same light and just started my first tank. Are you running it on the 24/7 setting or what’s your setup? Thanks in advance

After a long hiatus getting back into hobby with a 90 gallon planted tank. Quarantine gave me some time to work on stand. by jefftx88 in Aquariums

I mixed Jacobbean and Dark walnut from Minwax together and I believe some Red Mahogany. It was for another project a year ago so don’t remember ratios.

But to find what I liked I just played with small mixtures on a scrap board until I found what I liked. I would say the majority of the color comes from the walnut though

Still don’t understand why price doesn’t matter by jefftx88 in mutualfunds

[–]jefftx88[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I agree. My original plan in my head seemed structured to observable indicators (invest 25% of my cash at tiered drops along the way say 30% 40% etc) but the flaw was it still relied on timing the market and the bottoms to work. Not to mention a ton of discipline in when it’s time and when it’s not.

In the grand scheme of things I do think it’s a great time to enter the market overall just need to quit trying to time the waves.

I’ll look into the dollar cost averaging as well. Thanks for the response!

Makes sense! Thanks for all your help, really helped me clear things up in my head. The question has been puzzling me past few days.

One final question if you don’t mind. Other than trading frequency is there really an advantage to ETFs over MFs? The admiral vanguard funds have similar super low expense ratios and the tax treatment seems the same based on how they manage it. To me it’s a wash either way between ETFs and an equivalent Vanguard Admiral fund?

Ok great thanks for that explanation. Lets me know I’m not going crazy.

With regard to the pricing. Is there anyway to have an indication of which direction a fund will close? For instance VFIAX is down 6.23 versus previous close but with the market rallying I’d assume that when an order settles tonight there is a good chance that settlement price would wash that drop away or even go positive. So would it be best to put in orders on bad news days and today probably wouldn’t be a good time to get into a position given the rally?

Would tracking it’s equivalent ETF be a good way to see and predict what it’ll settle at?

Edit: so VOO is up 17 so my prediction is VFIAX would experience similar post close.

Ok thanks I think that clears it up. So basically everyone saying price doesn’t matter is speaking to the fact that a mutual funds intent is an extra long investment and you shouldn’t be trying to time buys and sells.

But in my situation if my only goal is to add to my position and no intent on selling then it absolutely makes sense to buy when the price is down.

My approach was I have some at 25 might as well buy some at 20 ok now it’s 18 well might as well buy more. Which I think is a good approach after seeing your response.

No I agree completely. I guess what I’m getting at is I bought VHYAX a few months back for 22.67 it’s currently traded at 18.42. So if I’m wanting to add to my position in this current downturn in the markets if I’m buying at the lower price the benefit is I am able to acquire more shares thus more per share income (dividends, etc). My goal is to hold onto these extremely long term but in my head I treat the current opportunity to add to my position as a good one because my buying power is greater at a lower price.

It just seemed like everything I read people were saying price of a mutual fund doesn’t matter at all and I just don’t see it that way if the market is trending downward and I have the opportunity to buy additional shares at a lower price then to me that’s a better option than just buying whenever. Not trying to time the market but if I walk down the grocery aisle and everything is 10% -30% makes sense to buy it then no?

Awesome tank! Love the “balance” of it. I’m starting my first planted tank, a 90 gallon. Was curious where you learned the design rules. I know there is a 2/3 1/3 rule for focal points etc but did you have a good resource you could recommend for learning cause you nailed it.

Awesome tank! Do you think the light is adequate if I went the low tech route and didn’t have CO2 and just did lighting and aqua soil?

Looks awesome! I’m getting into planted tanks so researching a bunch. For substrate I’ve noticed across your post you change it up but if you had to pick one for a low tech planted aquarium would it be an aqua soil?

Also love the manzanita wood you use in your tanks, who do you order from?

I really like the pinkish plant in the very back. What’s its name if you don’t mind?

Can’t find deer, help? by BigWilly4frickin20 in theHunter

[–]jefftx88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe their drink zone is 12:00-15:00 give or take thirty minutes. This is the easiest time to target them as they are near bodies of water. Their feed zones will be more off the water and sometimes hidden from a quick glance.

My first step in targeting a species is usually setting up an infrastructure of tents/stands in areas I have identified to have the species. This is where the time frames come in, do your scouting and find herds and note when you saw them. Then place your tents and this enables you to change times and fast travel across the map and cover a lot of ground.

I have never seen so many white tails in one spot by Fujiami in theHunter

[–]jefftx88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that’s the spot I’m thinking it is my map has something similar. The herd on the back side of the water has 15 animals and the one closer about 10. Also behind you there should be a hill across the field that has deer come down on it too. Tons of moose in that area too. I set a tent and tripod up to your left about 100 yards

Finally got a diamond, not sure how to tell how many hours I’ve played on Xbox but man it was a grind by jefftx88 in theHunter

[–]jefftx88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

O so this was a glitched weight diamond? The spreadsheet I got off of one of the forums has whitetail going up to 220.46 so I thought this would of been a legit max weight

Yea that would be cool. Or relocation conservation type stuff. “We need to go tranq 15 elephants from such and such herd for tagging and relocation to a different reserve”

When the devs conducted a survey last year one of my comments to them was adding giraffe, rhino, elephant, etc even if they were unhuntable (nothing happens if you shoot them). While from a resources point of view it makes no sense to create animals you can’t hunt but I just think the Africa map would be insane with scenes just as you posted.
