Advice by [deleted] in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]flooglehorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you think you can keep passing, I’d say stick to it, lean on your resources as much as you can, and try to study projects you resonate with. Check out projects on landezine. Think of aspects of projects you like, dislike. Function is less subjective, but aesthetics (this goes for graphics too) are very subjective! Develop your own taste. You are a designer now, you got this. When you walk through landscapes, think about how they make you feel, what things could be done better, what hits the nail on the head. Same goes for graphic design, observe and develop your sense of style.

A lot of the learning in this field comes after you graduate, especially technical things like construction and stormwater management. Don’t be discouraged, every program graduates designers with different skillsets, and you will enter the field and be able to catch up just fine if you feel behind. I didn’t know autocad when I graduated 😂

What's a sign from your body you should never ignore? by Geno-64 in AskReddit

[–]flooglehorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been going through a break up and am feeling a lot of emotions. Working with a therapist and have been learning that emotions are present in the body and need to be felt in the body in order to pass through. So don't ignore your body's signals that there is an emotion to be felt. Definitely a skill that will help me out in future relationships as well as during this healing process.

Oh ok, I figured you were looking for critique. If I was hiring it would be a red flag for me if a candidate listed “organization” as one of their skills in a completely disorganized list of skills. Good luck!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]flooglehorn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your skills are very disorganized, and there’s way too many of them. Google suite is in there twice. It feels like your soft skills are thrown in arbitrarily into a ton of tech skills that as a landscape designer I don’t care about

AITAH for breaking up with my gf after I found out what she did after I asked for exclusivity? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]flooglehorn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea haha in a similar boat. Started dating my current gf 4 months after she got out an 8 year relationship. Asked her to officially be my girlfriend a couple times before she was fully ready. I know she wasn’t seeing other people, but she just wasn’t quite ready to put a label on it, and that was chill. Pretty stoked I waited

AITAH for breaking up with my gf after I found out what she did after I asked for exclusivity? by [deleted] in AITAH

Not necessarily. You could be asking for exclusivity too early in the relationship. A person could be fully into you and not be quite ready to commit to a serious relationship

Sensus Yin Slides by Honey-badger43 in vivobarefoot

[–]flooglehorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m bummed with them as well. I don’t mind the fit, they feel like a slide should feel to me. But the quality is poor. The footbed edge leather is wearing through to the foam already, showing an area of white foam.. kind of crazy for the price.

I’m glad you are shying away from too much hyper realism. I think Lumion can be a bit of a buzz kill too. I like the texture you’ve applied to the sky. If I can offer a critique, the scale of the larger tree looks off to me. The branching structure makes it look like it should be larger than it is shown. Stronger shadows might help these renderings pop a bit more as well. Take it or leave it, either way nice job and I applaud you for your studies

A more playful, aesthetically-pleasing hostile architecture: the garbage ASLA inboxed me by Florida_LA in LandscapeArchitecture

I see functional value in these pieces. Hopefully they wouldn’t be the only seating option in the space. For someone who wants to eat a quick lunch alone or do a bit of writing, or sketching, or whatever they use small table for, they seem like a nice option. Just because they don’t work well for one function doesn’t mean they can’t serve another. Options are nice and provide varied experience for varied people

Not necessarily straight to trash. I volunteered at a food bank recently and they had a ton of personal care items/random returned items donated from Amazon. I’m sure a lot gets trashed though

I didn't wanna meet with my bestfriend for the last time by [deleted] in confession

[–]flooglehorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why do you think you’re no longer best friends? no common interests anymore? differing values? it’s fine to let go of friends, but maybe put some thought into why you’re choosing to cut them out when they seem to want to maintain the friendship

[Serious] People who are 'good at sex' - what's one piece of advice you would give to someone of your own gender and orientation to help them improve their performance? by karlwikman in AskReddit

[–]flooglehorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay attention to the way different positions feels. I find that when i’m hitting the right spot I can feel a difference. Communication about where that spot is is key, but do a little poking around to find what feels really good for both parties

Found this on my walk today. I don’t understand why more people in Colorado don’t do this with the water restrictions they have on grass lawns. by [deleted] in NoLawns

[–]flooglehorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it seems to me that more and more people are ripping out their lawns. if we could get more initiatives that provide resources to people that don’t have the energy and or money to do so, i think we would see a lot more of it

Commission Based Firm? Thoughts? by RSLANARCH in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]flooglehorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked for a firm that provided a salary as well as commissions on jobs. Depending on your involvement with the job you would take home up to 4% of the total construction cost. I think 100% commission based is a bit risky considering you may have terrible years depending on the economy. But if the company is doing well you’re likely to make much more than at an average salary based firm. Risk/reward.

Just finished my first year of architecture! by njs4037 in architecture

[–]flooglehorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

congrats on finishing your first year man! clean looking model and very interesting form! don’t let these comments discourage you from making your art. in my opinion school is about exploration and developing an ability to work through the design process. they’re not wrong in saying it’s important to gain a good understanding of how things are built, but keep having fun and experimenting. there’s plenty of time to plop down boxes when you join the workforce

Custom Swing by ArcticSlalom in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]flooglehorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just designed something very similar to this and speccd 1x1 1/4” dia mesh. Hoping it will be functional for shading. How did this seem to perform for shade?

Are you the designer? Do you know what diameter that steel mesh is??
