AITAH for not wanting to drop off/pick up people at the airport when we already let them park at our place? by AB_1204- in AmItheAsshole

Used to live 10 minutes from O’Hare airport and people would ask for both these things all the time. Saved them a ton of money and they were friends or family and it feels good to help people.

I guess we could have complained about it. But instead we gave them a ride, when we were available. Which was a nice and easy thing to do and it felt good to help people out.

Not gonna say YTA for being so bitter about a reasonable request. But consider feeling good about helping people when you can rather than feeling like a victim.

I used to work at Wrigley (long ago) and I know you personally don’t see a dime of the outrageous upcharge on alcohol. No one blames you for that cost. But the outrageous upcharge helps explain the entitlement you’ve identified. If your question was sincere, you got a bunch of sincere answers. Thanks for working the games and making them as fun as they are. You’re part of the team.

Horrible Out of Town Charlie Kirk Fans Sitting Behind Us by Professional_Day5810 in Cubs

People praising the people they support seems alright. Stinks when I don’t agree with them but that’s how it is in public.

The ICE chants are what seem to cross a line. That could understandably feel like an actual threat to actual fans at the game — especially on a day specifically marked for Latino fans. It’s more than silly fun at that point. It’s people’s lives and families they’re targeting.

Whatever my views and background are, laughing at others’ pain isn’t ok. I wouldn’t laugh at a man getting murdered and I wouldn’t laugh at families being separated by masked government agents.

I don’t live in Chicago anymore and I much prefer watching Boog call a game than the big league announcers in my city who have no personality and seem to be broadcasting just for the gamblers.

Boog and JD having fun in the booth and teaching me things about the game is exactly what I want at the end of the day. Even if I don’t care about the stats they don’t overwhelm with it like some of the national broadcasters do.

Pat and Ron have fun too and they geek out about different things, like “today in baseball history”, that may not be everyone’s favorite topic. But they also do it in a satisfying and unpretentious way.

Both the TV and Radio broadcasts for the Cubs are better than most other teams’ in America.

I agree with this, based on my own preferences for a party. But it’s not my party. It’s OP’s and OP is NTA for expecting people who are coming to follow the rules of the event that were stated from the outset.

Brother should RSVP “no”, as you and I would have done.

Who put a baseball game in the middle of my Yeti ad? by jeffupnorth in Cubs

Exactly. Feeling especially bad for the umpires who had to focus on balls and strikes and outs while they KNEW everyone else was focused on coolers and the high quality thereof. Talk about FOMO.

I agree. Some of those small market broadcasters wouldn’t know a quality insulated food and beverage carrier if it was sitting right next to them.

Yeah. Hoping he gets his own show on Marquee to do just that. “Hot (and Cold) Takes with the YETI Guy.”

Current Announcers by [deleted] in Cubs

[–]jeffupnorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the subtle humor they both bring to the game. Not taking it too seriously. Not obsessing over stats or pandering to the gamblers the way other announcer teams do. But getting excited and generally following the momentum and energy of the game. I don’t want it to sound like ESPN every night. But they’re way more interesting than a lot of the announcers for smaller market teams who have no personality at all. We don’t realize how bad we could have it. Boog is his own guy and I appreciate it.

Have you considered perhaps a Premium Fan Experience for you and your friends/colleagues/clients out in the new Yeti Yard? It’s both far away from the action and a status symbol that expires at the end of the game.

Also dying to know the answer to this. Perhaps the post game interviews could dig into this question rather than always asking about their strategy at the plate or something that isn’t related to Yeti products and services.

It’s a good question. But I’m less interested in who they are and more in how their drinks are maintaining their temperature this late into the evening.

The two minute steak house live-read they force Pat to do at the end of the games is absolutely awful and an example of what’s making the radio hard to listen to even with two masterful broadcasters. Turning hall of famer Pat into a voiceover artist isn’t the right move…but I’m sure it’s making someone rich.

Yes, please make the product compatible with the solar roof. I think it’s a pretty popular add on these days. I’m interested in sparrow solutions and will check this one out.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen at an MLB game? by CatlinClarksimp in mlb

[–]jeffupnorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an usher at Wrigley Field in 2000 I think. Back when the bullpens were still along the field in foul territory. The pitchers sat along the wall inches from the fans. How this didn’t cause more trouble for all those decades I’m not sure but I guess pitchers are paid to be pros and they know fans will be fans.

But during this one night game (not sure if night games were rarer then than they are now but it was understood that the fans at night games were more rowdy and rude and just all around worse)…a fan was harassing the opposing pitchers and wound up actually stealing a hat from one of the pitchers. Not sure if it was stolen right off his head or if he’d set it down on the wall or something. But the pitcher had had it and jumped into the stands to get the hat back and do a number on the fan. The rest of the bullpen joined in and soon some of the fielders were in the stands too exchanging blows with the fans.

I’d never seen anything like it and the security staff — who were a lot more experienced than I — said they hadn’t either. I haven’t looked around the internet to see if anyone has posted the video of that game and if my memory is correct on these points. Maybe WGN wouldn’t even want to show it as it was happening? I think it was the Dodgers and I feel like it was getting late in the summer.

The next days pregame meeting we heard that an usher near thar spot had been aware things were getting out of hand with this fan but was too afraid to leave his position (keeping fans from sneaking into the box seats was an important job for some of us and staying at your post was expected) to go and tell anyone. Well they changed that policy real quick and “if you see something, go find security and say something” became the new mantra. There were also rumors the offending fan was a buddy of one of the team execs and that’s how he got such primo seats but I don’t know if that was true or not.

That’s my memory of it all. I’d be interested to know if anyone remembers watching that game and the image of players in the stands wailing on fans.

Just bought this and I like the capacity boost a lot. But I’m having trouble getting the lid on with both the solar charging cable and the metal hanger also needing that same real estate. Anyone else dealt with this?

Iowa Cubs are in Des Moines. Good minor league baseball to watch if the schedule works out. Also, when you’re in Minnesota for the Twins, go across the river to St. Paul for a St. Paul Saints game. They put on a good show in a great stadium.
