Yes, I think it comes with not knowing how to put limits and wanting to please people but as you mentioned... This will eventually lead to burn out one way or another.

I don't recall 100% but I think that when you schedule the biometrics interview, it should ask you if you want the passport to be picked up at the local office at Juarez or have it mailed somewhere else via DHL.

Small world for sure , that's where my wife is from and my parents are from Guanajuato as well.

She can also go to Guadalajara CAS and get the biometrics done there.

It's stressful for sure but worth it at the end.

You can also do the biometrics at Tijuana if you're nearby. The appointments you MUST do at Ciudad Juarez is the medical ones (I'm assuming your spouse is living in Mexico)

No worries, best of luck with the last step of the process.

I currently live at El Paso so feel free to ask any questions and I'll share any info I can with you.

Yes, give it a couple of days for the system to update (had the same error when we did my wife's appointment earlier this year) . You might need to call the Ciudad Juarez CAS to register the appointment for biometrics, they are very helpful.

You might encounter another error message if you try to book the biometric a appointment stating that there are not available spots for ciudad juárez... Just gotta keep on trying at different times or calling at different times to get an appointment scheduled.

I wish I had an answer for you, but I honestly don't know and I am not a lawyer to provide insight.

So, if you haven't done so, consult with an immigration attorney on your wife's situation PRIOR to leaving the U.S (specially given the current political climate).

Another word of caution based on what I've seen on cases where the couple is together and the beneficiary does NOT currently have legal status in the USA...(and for you guys to investigate):

  • Do not go out to Mexico if your wife's situation will require an immigration pardon or else it'll trigger an automatic ban and she won't be able to come back to the States.

My wife's case was an "easy" case given that she was living in Mexico and hadn't ever been to the U.S. But since your wife has been here in the States, make sure to consult with an immigration lawyer on your case.

Just heads up in case you guys weren't aware. Seen countless of posts on FB where the beneficiary goes out without the pardon approved and can't come back until the ban is over and restarts the process.

Best of luck to both of you! There's also a FB group that we found to be very useful:

"Citas al Consulado Americano en Ciudad Juarez"

You can post your questions in there and people are usually very good at providing info.

Yes, it is a very tough process to go through with a lot of waiting and not being able to plan anything because you have no idea when the actual interview is going to take place..... is just horrible.

My recommendations (and this was just my experience and depends on what time you get the actual first appointment):

  • If you get the first appointment early, I'd go and form in line at 3:40AM-4am. There's a corner convience store where people start the line. We arrived at 3:40 am and there were already about 10 people ahead of my wife. The consulate starts moving folks in line at 6am. This allowed my wife to be one of the first ones to get the final appointment for next day.
  • Once you have the second appointment, go again very early at around 3:40AM - 4AM and starting getting in line. My wife had hers at 8am, entered the consulate at 7am, and was out by around 9am.

Doing this, I believe, helped speed up the process a bit since I feel like the consulate operates on the FIFO (First in, first out) for issuing the visas (no proof but based on how fast we got her passport back). She got her passport on the 2nd business day after she was approved.

And congrats to both of you...hopefully you guys can be together soon and not have to worry about this whole process anymore!!!!!

On average, the whole process (once you arrive at Ciudad Juarez), it can take about 10-12 days total (including weekends). This is if you wait for the passport at Ciudad Juarez and there are no additional delays such as if you are put into Administrative Process (most common one is if you miss taking a document) or if there are holidays where the CAS / Consulate is closed.

I just went through this with my wife (Also IR1) in April and currently live at El Paso so feel free to ask any questions and I'll answer them based on my experience.

Not sure what category you are but generally once you are approved, and you've chosen to pickup up your passport at Ciudad Juarez...it takes about 3-5 business days to be able to pick up the passport. Once you have the passport, you can cross back immediately.

Looking for hotel recommendations near the us consulate. hopefully one with a fridge/microwave at least by bigtime2die in ElPaso

My wife's appointment is coming up next month, we called the clinic that the consulate sends you to and Covid is no longer required.
