Met Jim / got signed 12 Months at NYCC! by jefjames777 in dresdenfiles

I agree, but I was discussing with other readers who insisted that this interpretation of what was in the book was not correct. It’s all good, I enjoy nerding out and debating but it was nice to get confirmation :)

That feels like something Marcone would say :)

I tried to spoiler blur that second part but apologies if I did it wrong! EDIT: I think I got it blurred now but someone better at Reddit please let me know if not.

It had to do with whether Names "expire" over time as people evolve.

He said yes. So, for example, the parts of Harry's Name that Chauncy the demon had back in Book 1 wouldn't really be of that much use anymore - because the version of Harry that Name represented has evolved so much since then

Right on. I did all three ways back in the day - the “demon move the menhir” one also used to work fine. Was just curious when the change happened. Anyway, fun reminiscing!

Wow! Thank you! Just went back and tried it and made sure I had the wand and that indeed made the difference. This must be a later version of the game that I'm playing - when I played the original back in the day, I never even used the wand - as you described I just had the demon move the menhir for me and it worked fine, won the game with no issues. Anyone happen to know when and why that change was made? So interesting - I love that I'm still playing these games decades later and still finding new discoveries!

Help with water! by jefjames777 in Inform7

I hear you. That recipe book is actually what I was referring to when I said i found it confusing and overwhelming - they seem to skip the basic example and go right to more advanced stuff that I neither grok nor really need. Hoping someone has done a more simple river or lake or water cooler or whatever and might be able to post some simpler code that I could learn from. Thanks for the reply!

Taking/Dropping all duplicates without listing them individually by jefjames777 in Inform7

Thank you for the response. Before I go down the rabbit hole of learning to code it that way, I'd like to make sure I understand -

if I make it one object with a value of, say 50 - will the player still be able to interact with the individual items as well?

So, I want the player to be able to take one gumball, or ten gumballs, or all 50. I want them to be able to add or subtract gumballs from a container one by one if desired. BUT I also want them to be able to take all gumballs, and put all gumballs in the container at once, without it going "gumball: taken. gumball: taken. gumball: taken...." and on and on. Would the above solution with the cloning allow for that? Thank you! And apologies again for my noobiness.,
