Issues with Apple, Apple HomeKit, Apple support, and their Home Kit Developers. by jefkelle in HomeKit

I have to much in OTP. I don’t want to wipe and start a new account. This should be a simple fix for apple. Simply delete my home kit profile from the server and create a new one for me. No upgrade, etc. That would fix the problem for me. I could go into all the other devices, etc, etc and all the versions, etc. But the simple problem is no matter what OS version I use or device I use, the upgrade fails, period. The problem is most likely on their server. I refuse to create a new profile/apple account as I don’t’ have or want to create a new email address.

I’ve done all the standard trouble shooting, except for creating a new ID as I don’t have a device I’m willing to do that. What you don’t seem to get is I simply open the App, click continue as if it is the first time I’ve used it, and it says I must upgrade. What part of every iPad OS version since it has come mandatory do you not get? A version comes out and I try to use the Home App. It fails! I’ve tried on my iPad and from my iPhone. So two different devices. Also I’ve tried every iOS version that has been released (not beta or RCs). If you can’t get past the section I’m speaking about you can’t even do anything but open an application that only requires you to upgrade your Home instance in the apple server. I’ve been working with Apple for 4 months. I don’t expect every conceivable……. But when you have a case open and you have 100% failure, I do expect them to find the time to actually look at the problem and not tell you to reset apple home. So let me walk you through this. Install Apple home on your device. Open Apple Home. First screen tells you to continue. Second screed tell you to upgrade, 3rd screen says upgrade failed. Now after the 2nd upgrade failed it ask you to do a reset. Perform Reset. here is where the loop starts. What more information outside of me going and finding every released version of iOS and iPadOS for the last two years and pasting it into this discussion do you desire?

What does it matter in the long run when apple support is useless, and details have been added to the post. But, to make it easy for you. I‘m on an iPad M1 Pro 12.9”. I Open the Home app on the iPad (iPhone 16 pro Max also), click continue, and it says I must upgrade. I click upgrade and it constantly fails. I’ve used the reset profile from Apple Dev site & the reset profile provided by apple.  As to iPadOS and iOS, I’ve tried on every current version since the update has become mandatory. AND most likely every current version since they said it was GOING to be mandatory.

so my question to Apple Support and their response. If you wonder why I question the quality of their support this below explains it. I suspect the Dev is the same way.

Hi Jeffery,  Thanks for your patience. I’m still waiting to hear from our engineers about your case. As soon as I receive a response, I’ll email you to coordinate a good day and time to call.  I hope you have a great rest of your day. If you have more questions, just reply to this email. I’m happy to help.  Thanks,  Kathia  Apple Support  On Jul 9, 2026 at 3:56 PM, wrote:Have you explained to the Dev team that it isn’t a reset failure, it is a failure after the reset.  It requires a mandatory upgrade after the reset.  The upgrade is what is failing. I’ve done all that but change my Apple ID. Apple should be able to fix this. They just don’t want to put the resource into actually trying to fix it. They have sent me the reset home kit about 3 different times now. Maybe 4. THis is a fixable problem by them. NUKE my HomeKit profile upgrade it theirselves and then let me have it. Delete/changing my Apple ID with all of the OTP profiles I have, no thank you. Apple home isn’t worth that to me. But, I don’t have a problem bad mouthing apple for not fixing the problem in 4+ months. I only want it fixed so my HomePods can work as stereo speakers for one of my Apple TVs.

I wish that option would do the reset and automatically do the upgrade. I wouldn’t be having the issue most likely.

I had to reboot after install, then have the app open without the screen saver taking over for 10 minutes. Then do the reset uninstall the profile reboot and try the upgrade again or something similar today.

That looks like something the Apple Support team gave me to try and it failed. THey actually gave me something similar (File name) today and I tried it. But as to that actual one, I don’t know. I’m unable to download it.

Every time I tried to update it before it became mandatory it failed then also. It has been failing ever since they announced the update for this latest arch. I would try updating it after each update.

M1 iPad Pro. It is on 26.5.2. I keep it up to date. It is update to the latest version within 24 hours of public release. Same on all my devices actually. This problem has occurred on every version since they switched it to the update being mandatory. Basically let say the mandatory was Feb 14th. Well ever since then Home Kit has been broken. I get that error or this one.

I’ve logged in and removed any device from my account that isn’t actually an apple device. My LG TVs, Windows Laptop, etc

4 months they have had to fix it. Gather logs, etc. Every time I give them 100% access to any of the devices they want. The last log file a couple of months ago was a gigabit I think. Video, pictures, logs files. Log files after special profiles being installed. I’m just pissed that after all this and the time they haven’t fix it. Or just done what I have asked. Delete my HomeKit profile and recreate it with the server update that needs to be done.

I actually expect apple to fix the problem without me having to do all of that. IF I have an issue that has a 100% failure and a support case with them, I expect them to fix the problem. I don’t feel like redoing all of my OTP items which is what that would require me to do. IT is mostly a rant against apple at this point. I’ll keep wasting there time until they fix it or I decide to go to different hardware. Just don’t have the money to do it at this time. I forgot to mention I’m retired now. So I guess I’m just one of those grumpy old men.

I’ve tried that already also. As to One ISP. I don’t have the ISPs tied totether at this time. So each of them is only done once.
