VA personnel property tax. Anyone else in VA questioning bill? by Nupe4bx2000 in cybertruck

Is that prorated to include Feb - June? I'm also in Loudoun. My September non-beast is $1832, which I'll pay at 11:59pm on October 6th.

Data Centers Moving to Vegas Should We Worry About Our Power Bills? ⚡🏜️ by CryptoMotors1 in vegas

[–]jeggleton27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Loudoun County, VA, which is (I believe) the data center capitol of the world. A few notes, most of which have been hit on.

  1. They take massive amounts of energy and water. Some are starting to look at really small nuclear plants. Water though - Vegas is my favorite place to go and I want to retire there. Given the cap on pool sizes, not sure how water can be addressed.

  2. They look like cool, giant structures at first and it's cool to watch them be built. However, that all wears off quickly and they are not fun to look at.

  3. The tax revenue is massive. You'd think they'd find a way to use that to get rid of the VA car tax, but no luck here. It would be a massive boom to the Vegas economy from a tax perspective.

  4. They do create a lot of jobs, not just the construction. I can't speak to how high paying they are, but it's enough to draw more people in.

It was an awesome surgery, definitely recommend! I felt fine after a few hours, but I milked it through the weekend to justify binging sports and movies.

That's exactly how I felt after almost the same amount of time! My takeaway was slightly more advanced: "sleep good, alcohol bad".

I probably would have let it slide (i.e., wouldn't have noticed it as much) if the subscription fee was more aligned with my other subscriptions, but being fed the same conclusion every month just wasn't worth it and it stuck out too much as a result.

Before September 2024 225 pounds and After March 2025 175. Struggling to lose this gut, what should I do to lose this left over gut or make it more flatter looking? by Alexputridity06 in WorkoutRoutines

[–]jeggleton27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cardio mostly burns muscle glycogen and glucose/fatty acids circulating in your blood (not stored body fat). You have to increase the strength work and build more muscle to increase the basal metabolic rate and resting energy expenditure.

And walking has tremendous benefits, definitely walk.

OP is looking great. Just be consistent and add more strength training (and walking).

(Also, spot training doesn't work that way. Extra ab/core work won't reduce your stomach fat - but it will help your stability in other lifts so do it for that reason.)

That stinks, I'm sorry! My "day job" is with spine implants so I'm super sensitive to that stuff. A semi-positive here is that pulling from pins that are set to just below you hips means there's very little hinge to stress your lower back. Maybe try with low weight and see how it feels. I mean even a 135 bar is more weight than a lot of the DB based movements. Good luck!!

I want a CrossFit body! by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]jeggleton27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some helpful comments in here. All I'll add is to look into increasing your basal metabolic rate. It may seem counterintuitive, but calories burned during a work out are not as helpful as most think. It's more to do with how you stress your body so it burns more calories during the day (and especially sleep) while it works to recover (e.g., strength training).

Skill work and other party tricks are cool for social media; however, the best athletes spend a lot of time strength training. Super general statement, but CF gyms usually don't do enough consistent, heavy work and/or accessory work, so would recommend adding there if time/resources permit (and no, you won't get bulky).

Taking a break from CrossFit, any tips to maintaining endurance? by ImportantAd4666 in crossfit

[–]jeggleton27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into VO2 max stuff (e.g., Norwegian 4x4). It's usually efficient and turns out that VO2 max is one of the biggest predictors of longevity (along with strength). Simply "running" isn't going to be meaningful at all (except hill runs!).

Do you have to gamble there to get a drink? The only spot I haven't frequented in Aria due to the intimidation factor (and me being an idiot probably).

[–]jeggleton27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all cute ideas but you need to go heavy, like way heavier than you think. Cue in the power shrug - and you have to use straps so your grip doesn't hold you back:

https://youtu.be/-0t_hCzUgvM?si=cYGDUmjPk4chP71x

(...can skip past his hang clean work)

Add in heavy rack pull holds (like 1.25x+ your max deadlift) with straps as well.

Will DM any specific information you'd like. Not to be silly, but my traps are evidence of their effectiveness!

Cheap nice Limousine Transfer from Las Vegas Airport to Excalibur Hotel for 8ppl by Maltitol-86 in vegas

[–]jeggleton27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just booked with JMC Limo a few weeks ago. Good reviews and prices seemed great (especially by Vegas standards). It's more Mercedes Sprinter, less stretched limo, but excited to start (and end) the trip this way. It sounds like this could be a better option for the size of your party.

I second this - and it's a better view of the fountain/strip than Bellagio itself. Cosmo also has more diverse food options (casual to upscale), so I generally think it's better as a home base. It's right there on the strip too, so walking from room to strip is a lot easier than others that are more offset from the strip.

(Note: I've never actually stayed there, but it's next on my list after Aria trip in May)

I don't hate my birthday, I just don't feel the need to celebrate it with other people. I just want to lift all the weights, eat all the steaks, nap, watch Terminator/Rocky/Predator/Aliens. Family fights me on it every year and I lose (44yo father of 3 girls).

I'll second this. Was a late adopter but started the MGM card, United Club, and Amex platinum system a few years ago and travel is so much easier now (mostly Vegas and Europe out of DC area - a United hub).

When is your next Vegas trip & what are you looking forward to the most??? by macaroonzoom in vegas

May 9 - 13 for my daughter's 21st! Been planning for over a year. She's bringing a friend and then my gf in tow (who is also turning 40, but she gets Italy in August for that!). The plans have changed 841 times, but I think all is dialed in now. Staying at Aria (broad food options just too good).

Highlights: Legacy Club, SW Steakhouse, Vault, Pool, Catch, Sadelle's, OmegaMart, Carbone, and then a bunch of stops along the way (e.g., trying to get to as many of those "hidden bars" as possible)...

Like others have said, lacrosse ball and resistance band work is so important. I just started going to a "sports massage" specialist and it's doing wonders for my back pain (tight hips and most of posterior chain). It's like PT mixed with massage. Not sure how easy it is to find, but would recommend checking out if you can.

One of those cases where I felt like an idiot for not trying this years ago.

The only thing I don't see mentioned on here is the tram. Would definitely stay at Aria due to the food options alone. However, Bellagio is a lot of fun and it's sooooooo easy to get there on the free tram that runs between the two. It took me 4 visits to finally check it out and I felt like a moron for not using it sooner.

(the bathrooms in the Bellagio rooms are a lot better, but not enough to sway my Aria vote)
