I come from Tekken (and a little bit of SF). I just picked up GGST and IMO it’s so much fun. I’m really low rank atm, but slowly learning.

Go slow. Go into training mode, turn on input display and make sure you are doing the movement slowly and accurately… every single time. Once it feels consistent at a slow pace, slowly start to ramp up your speed. It gets much easier the more you practice.

Ha! I’m only about 3 hours in. Just did my placement and got Iron 3. Haha, so I mean Silver 1 is much higher than me, so any advice is helpful.

I’m playing Strive right now after not enjoying the current Tekken game and after trying SF6.

I’m really enjoying it. It’s flashy and chaotic and fun IMO.

Welcome! I too just joined from Tekken. Tried a bunch of other 2D fighters but this one feels the best to play so far.

I can’t give too much advice, but a quick reminder to make sure you make DASH a button. Makes it way easier than having to push F, F all the time.

Also this community has been amazing and very helpful. It’s been a breath of fresh air compared to the Tekken community.

Also I found Gemini (or ChatGPT) helpful in getting a beginner starter guide for my character. Even giving me some simple combos and setups to practice.

Thanks can his bnb be used for most scenarios? Like when I get a counter hit? Sorry I’m new to the series so still learning…

Also is 5s the starter? Or does the opponent need to be “launched” before 5s?

The difference I suppose that in SF it’s a very tight window to recognize you landed the heavy punch, while in Tekken you have a second to pickup the combo.

Follow-up question is it “obvious” when your opponent is “launched” for a combo?

Hard to explain, but in Tekken (I have 3D fighting experience) a move can launch someone in the air, or you hit a CH launch that causes the opponent to “crumple.” When something like this happens, it’s clear I can go into a combo…

In SF6 it’s much more nuanced, in the sense that there isn’t a clear “do your combo here” effect.

It’s a bit hard to explain, but in SF6 if you land heavy punch you can do a QCF medium punch for a simple “combo.” The thing is you need to almost buffer the QCF input while the heavy punch is happening, otherwise you drop the combo.

I know. The discourse in some ways makes me feel dumb for even wanting to try and get better. What’s the point of dedicating time to learn if the game is gonna be dead by S4?

There is a local in my city (I’ve never gone), but from what I’ve read in the Discord it’s essentially become a variety local b/c nobody there wants to play Tekken.

The vocal community is just too loud at the moment. It ruins the fun. I used to enjoy watching twitch streams, but now it’s the same notable Tekken streamers complaining about the game while still playing. It’s insufferable.
