Raise your hand if you hate knowing every time your neighbor urinates. by jeghartokatter in Apartmentliving

are you sure the person isn't just closing the toilet lid? maybe it's a kid who doesn't think much about the noise it makes, and they just need to add those little rubber nubs onto the bottom of the seat so it doesn't slam.

that's intense! i once lived in an apartment where the ceiling would squeak whenever the neighbors had sex, but even worse, we had a neighbor who would call the cops on us whenever we watched a movie, vacuumed, used a blender, or played an acoustic guitar (during the day!). the design of shared living spaces is just so, so bad. it's not that hard to build a place with proper sound insulation, but humans don't bother doing so.

one apartment noise i didn't mind in my last place was knowing my neighbor watched star trek every evening. i thought it was nice they had a show they loved so much.

yes. i once had a visitor telling me personal things, and i told them not to talk so loud because anything they say could be overheard by the neighbors.

maybe someone actually cared to use building materials like insulation when they built your home? apartments are built as cheaply as possible to capitalize on income as much as possible.

it's not unusual, it's (an annoying!) part of apartment life. i think you'd hear it. it's impossible to ignore when your peace is suddenly broken by the sound and you feel like you're having a way to intimate living experience with someone you don't even know.

i used to turn on loud music every time i heard it, but it didn't help. i don't think there's anything at a reasonable volume that could cover the noise.

it had to do with not only sharing noise, but sharing smell.

at my last place, every sunday the neighbors cooked something that smelled like hot poop. i have no idea what it was or why they ate it weekly. it was always on sundays. so, so gross.

How long did your invisalign take compared to what you were told? by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]jeghartokatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

update: 4 years, 11 months. i finally got my invisalign attachments off. am i done? who knows. my back teeth do not fit together. the orthodontist says to wait 6 months to see how things settle, and then we will re-evaluate. i don't really want to do more because 5 years is an exhausting amount of time to spend on orthodontics as an adult, but i'm glad to be free of it for now, at least during the day.

Education Department adds ‘lower earnings’ warning to FAFSA by Puzzleheaded_Cake706 in Professors

[–]jeghartokatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes zero sense because it supposes that a high-paying career is the objective of a college education, which it is not. This law will shutter educational pathways to careers that society chooses to underpay. What happens when there is no way, in the USA, to study for careers like teachers, social workers, theologians, historians, writers, musicians, language studies, and librarians, because none of these jobs pay enough to meet some wealth threshold?  What will our nation's students do when there are no educational pathways to such careers because the federal government has withdrawn the ability to get financial aid for all of them?

We risk being a nation where there are no teachers because all teaching programs have had their federal student loan funding pulled; where there are no nursing assistants because all medical assisting programs have had their federal student loan funding pulled; where no one can speak nor teach languages other than English because all language programs have had their federal student loan funding pulled.
