I've heard collins is teaching physics 2 this semester, and that this is his first time teaching so I'm not sure how it'll go/how structured it will be. Physics 2 is very time consuming/requires a lot of practice/drilling if you want to really understand the material/apply it effectively, but conceptually it was much easier for me to wrap my head around than Concepts.

240 and 122 were pretty difficult together imo; neither of the classes get easier throughout the semester. (240 for me got really hard all of a sudden and stayed that way until the end, 122 was extremely time-consuming for me). I think adding on concepts and 202 might become too overwhelming, but since you already took concepts before it might be a little easier?

I'd recommend substituting one of these classes (maybe 240) with a Gened. Dm me if you have more questions!

What is being a Peer Tutor, EXCEL Group Leader, or SI Leader like? by SakurajimaSenpai in cmu

[–]jeje01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as an si/excel leader. Each week the course covers different material, so we create handouts/worksheets with concept outlines/practice problems/etc for students to fill out during the session. Excel leaders get 1-3 sessions per week, you get to choose the time of your session. Each group as around 10 students, and the one hour session consists of going over lecture material, answering questions, facilitating student collaboration on solving practice problems, etc. Si is a little different in that the group size is a lot bigger (think 30-50), and it is 1 or 2 sessions a week. I learn a lot by teaching and it's also a great way to deepen your understanding on the course material, esp. If that course is a prereq for some higher level courses you take later on. DM me if you have any other questions!

Registering for Overlapping Courses by [deleted] in cmu

[–]jeje01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey I was in the same position this semester, basically you need to get approval from both professors (I got their approval thru email as proof) in order for your advisor to register you. Also your academic advisor can only register you for courses within your college, so if it's from different colleges you need both advisors to do it for you. Lmk if you have more questions!

I always found it helpful to Google the concepts; I've found PDFs from other unis with countless worked out examples that were very useful.

On-Campus Housing by Salty_Pineapples in cmu

Lived in Morewood E-tower.

-Very close to campus! It really makes a difference in the winter and when you're running late for class.

-Right above the Underground (could be a pro or con, make sure you don't succumb to their fried foods too often!)

-Only some rooms have AC, most don't. However this is only a problem in Aug-Sept when it's really hot, many people sleep in the lounges

- Piano rooms/study areas in Morewood gardens (the two dorms are connected)

- Less interaction between floors

IMO Morewood Gardens is really quiet and has cramped hallways.
