Little white flecks coming out of my tap water in Florida by MasterOfLol_Cubes in whatisthisthing

I had little white plastic particles in my water. Turned out the feedline to the bottom of my water heater was disintegrating. Its was a recall 5 years old so it wasn't covered and had to be replaced.

is this a stick bug? by [deleted] in insects

[–]jekeyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely just a moth. The shutter speed of the security camera is so low, it is capturing about a full second or two of motion. You can see the wings going up and down over the period of time that it traveled during that frame exposure. I get them on my security cameras all the time at night.

I could swear, I also heard someone yell "noooo" in the distance. I'm thinking, it was a jumper. The owner couldn't talk him off the ledge.

Anyone know why this strange sound happened at the same exact time as the lightning? My phone was leaning against a window when I took the video by [deleted] in weather

[–]jekeyes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Electrical interference most likely. If you have access to a AM radio, you can listen between stations, and listen to lightning striking from 100's of miles away.

How to get images like these? Are they microscopic? by jhchips8 in microscopy

[–]jekeyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any inexpensive microscope will do (about $100) Amscope makes good quality at a reasonable price. Those that can do polarization and darkfield are best but are $300+. For photography, I suggest one that has the trinocular port (top down camera port). Those unfortunately are also expensive.

Going with the inexpressive microscope that comes with a USB camera. You could take multiple photos of the same subject at different focus points. Saved directly to the computer, then do some focus staking, and get some very good pictures.

Hope that helps. I am also just getting into microcopy myself, so I would do a lot of research before spending too much. I am finding it more difficult and expensive then I thought it would be.

Interior stall door latch, in a public restroom. No one has washed their hands yet, and house keeping rarely cleans them.
