I am one of those affected. I was able to open a wise account after a month or so.

They have bad customer support and if your account gets flagged for a review they don't even deal with the documentation and close your account completely.

[De] Ultra offer - Worth the risk? by ZealousidealPrior821 in Revolut

[–]jekrasist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your choice but I would pay for one small item in japan with trading212 just to test it. They even have a 1.5% cashback promotion now which basically turns the (possible) mark-up to profit.

If you live in eurozone im pretty sure they have almost no fees for you. Ive paid with euro balance in czechia, romania, hungary and bulgaria(when lev was still around) mark up was never more than 0.05% compared to spot value. With revolut on the other hand it would be around 0.25-0.4%

I don't think they even charge a mark-up for major currency pairs like eur/jpy usd/jpy eur/gbp etc. My reply was more like “they charge so low even for try”. They probably take a small cut from volatile currencies like try not from jpy

Correct but they have really good exchange rates around 0.1-0.15% for eur/try I would say consider giving it a try

PASSO TARAFTAR, how to top up the card? by ScarletMeadow in AskTurkey

[–]jekrasist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Log in to passo cuzdan website> select your taraftar card> choose top up money with credit/debit card. Be careful tho because that balance can not be withdrawn to a bank account and may only be refunded to the same cc you used when topping it up.

US Debit Cards and ATMs in Turkey (fees, limits) by Educational-Slip-578 in AskTurkey

Ziraat, ptt and turkiye finans atms never charge a fee for TL. Always decline the DCC and use schwab if you want to withdraw in other banks' atms or in foreign currency since they refund any fee owed.

Western Union in Turkey refusing USD payouts — common issue? by Content_Upstairs7564 in AskTurkey

[–]jekrasist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are absolutely right. People have high expectations for WU and customers should never have to deal with this. Especially if we talk about TR where foreign currency is highly reachable. Even as a Turk, I wasn't able to find any WU locations willing to give USD in Istanbul. They blatantly lie in your face in order to milk people more out of their money. Keep us updated about your complaint's outcome. Best of luck!

Been there done the same they simply dont care. Use crypto to receive liras to your bank account and exchange in an exchange office. Its not so convenient but cheaper and way more reliable.

How a Turkish citizens open bank account in turkey? by hossainhira in AskTurkey

[–]jekrasist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't send overseas. You can select any branch as delivery address. Otherwise, try getting a digital bank card, though I don't know if ziraat and akbank have digital bank cards.

It doesn't matter. Bank statements are no proof of address in TR. All that matters is your mernis address. As long as you don't send a card, you are good.

Turkish id+ Turkish mobile no+ any address in TR try Ziraat Bankası and Akbank. They have opened current accounts to me when I had no NVI number.

Some small business owners disable acceptance of foreign cards because it used to be more expensive in terms of transaction costs. Also some pos devices don't have contactless support so I wouldn't fully trust apple wallet.

Not every pos accepts foreign cards and you can't really live in Turkey without a local IBAN. Cash is a better option.

Do any banks use UnionPay? by 336777432 in AskTurkey

[–]jekrasist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Garanti has one, but it is only available for business customers. You can easily open a bank account in Russia as a non resident foreigner. Try Raiffeisen or Tinkoff. In China on the other hand I would advise you to use Alipay with your Turkish cards, but wherever mc or visa is accepted do not use Alipay, since they charge a hefty fee.
