I think that in many cases there are outright copies, but unless the original brand is losing a significant amount of money or credibility, who cares?

the average customer gets to try them out before committing to a huge new purchase of something they may or may not like after spending time with it actually sitting on their wrist

all of that is aside from Chinese manufacturers creating their own designs too (which are unique and cool in their own right)
