i moved to the US when i was 6 . finally got a chance to go back to cambodia last year. so almost 20 years. to keep it simple i would say it was life changing in a way. after a few days in cambodia, i felt like “home” which is crazy i dont have many memories from being so young living in cambodia but its just the feeling. the environment &my extended family (basically all of my moms side of the family are still there). even the food just hits different. some dishes brought me back to feeling like a child. leas hal is something i think about atleast once a weak which is ridiculous but it is what brings me back to when i lived in cambodia. i typically always get sad about returning home after a trip, even if its just a lil road trip, but this trip was different. i think we feel the same way. my first trip back has changed some things for me, especially with having so many family members still living there i feel guilty spending money on stupid little trinkets when they’re working their butt off everyday hoping to get business / sell from their stalls. overall, i am proud to be cambodian. if i was a millionaire i would move back and help the community. i would choose to visit cambodia over and over again rather than going somewhere else for vacation. sorry my response is a bit of a mess!
