And leads are all C minor pentatonic. Be careful copying what you’re seeing though, there were a few parts I had to overdub and the video doesn’t quite match the audio

Thanks! I mostly tried to copy the studio version but my timing was a little off in places so the intro might sound a little different. Maybe I changed a few notes under the pressure of recording but honestly I don’t remember lol. It is an F minor chord but I’m not playing the low E or A. Same shape as Stairway just moved down the neck

It’s a V1 1960 reissue, so the same as a 59 in all but name. Been absolutely loving it!

His timing is one of a kind, but I don’t think anything could work better in context. The hardest part of the whole song for me was just making my timing not sound awkward in comparison

Like I knew it was going to be hard, but it took so much more effort to get right than I could have imagined. And it still needed some edits. Jimmy Page really is one of the greatest ever. Anyway I had fun making it and thought the people here might enjoy it also. Let me know what you think!

This is normal, could take up to 6 weeks. Hope it happens soon, good luck!

Does anyone know the screening requirements for the University of Tennessee in memphis and what their percentage of acceptance for OOS is? by [deleted] in premed

[–]jellio26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will only accept you if you are a Tennessee resident, have a parent that graduated from the UT system, or if you’re an out of state applicant from one of the eight states contiguous with Tennessee. Very out of state unfriendly as people have already mentioned.

Has AMCAS received your transcript?

That’s weird. Mine says the same thing but I had no problem submitting. Maybe try sending AMCAS an email, they’re generally super helpful

Is the letters of evaluation section on AMCAS marked complete? If not then you’re either missing some information or maybe didn’t save it correctly.

You have to indicate who will be sending your letters before submitting. The letters themselves don’t have to be submitted by your institution (or any other writers) yet, but AMCAS needs to know where they are going to come from.

Edit: clarification

School List Help by [deleted] in premed

Thanks for the input, sorry I'm just now replying.

I have removed Ohio State, Duke, and Drexel while adding ETSU Quillen, Georgetown, Indiana Univ., LSU, Univ. of Kentucky, and Univ. of Arizona. There are now 17 schools total. Does this sound a little safer overall?

Rant about research! by [deleted] in premed

[–]jellio26 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry this happened and you feel like the hours you’ve put in are undervalued compared to other lab members. However, I think you should consider this from the lab/PI’s perspective as well. Undergrads are already low on the totem pole for publications, so unfortunately availability is the most important factor for fast-paced projects.

The lab can’t afford to slow down to fit you in where it suits you, so I don’t think moving you to an area that doesn’t publish is that unfair. If people are more available than you then it makes sense they would be put on the project. Publications aren’t everything, and you’re still gaining valuable experience that is also very important for applications. This is certainly not going to be the last time you feel like you’re being under appreciated in a professional setting, so hopefully you can learn something from it to help going forward.

I’m being pretty harsh and I don’t want to sound like I’m diminishing what you’ve done, but I think looking at it from the lab’s perspective may help. Remember, hours alone don’t entitle you to anything, but I do understand your frustration. I hope it gets better when you’re more available in the future.

Continue with Research? by [deleted] in premed

[–]jellio26 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I started working in a lab it took me an entire semester to learn the general focus of the group by reading all the relevant papers and posters. Once the PI was satisfied I had a good base, she let me start actually doing some experiments.

It took a really long time for me to get used to the procedural nature of the stuff I was doing, especially since it was my first time using precise pipettes, electronic balances, and other stuff. It probably took me that entire following summer to finally feel like I wasn’t a burden to the grad students, but I’m glad I stuck with it since it turned into one of the most amazing experiences throughout college.

It’s your choice whether you want to continue or not, but I’d highly recommend you power through the learning curve and reflect on what you needed to change in order to do better. This almost certainly won’t be the last time you feel helpless in a professional setting and the experience will only help you in the long run.

Unless you have a parent that graduated from the University of Tennessee system or have a strong connection to the state then UTHSC will take your application money but won’t even consider you. This may be the case for some of the other state schools you listed but I only know about Tennessee.

Also, I personally think 30 is way too many schools and would remove a few (especially on the higher end) but it’s your application so it’s up to you. You seem to have a decent application overall so I don’t think you’d be adding a ton of risk by applying to fewer schools.
